TSS Suunto App vs Trainingpeaks
-
Hey i have chanched my Heart Rate Zones specially in the Watch for Running, and change the Heart Rate Zones also in Trainingpeaks.
Why in Suunto App a Run Workout is measured with a 61 TSS hr and Trainingpeaks measured it as 92 TSS. Have i to change manually all coming Trainings in Suunto App with the TSS from Trainingpeaks!? -
@GiPFELKiND
By default Training Peaks uses power data to calculate TSS, when that data is available for the workout.
To get the TSS values to match, you need to change the TSS in the TP workout to hrTSS or change the Suunto workout to pTSS (assuming, if using pTSS, that your power zones are the same for both).
However, I wouldn’t normally see such a large difference between pTSS and hrTSS as you have for this run. I suspect you have one of your sets of zones set inaccurately (I’m guessing your power zones, given you mention setting your HR zones). -
Power in running is not an exact science as with HR, leading to some variations amongst different watch manufacturers and Stryd, which might explain the difference in TSS numbers. Best to default TP TSS to HrTSS rather than pTSS, unless you are doing a power-based training plan.

What about rTSS for running?

@altcmd
Yes, agree about the variation in power data from different manufacturers. I only have one device that records power (S9PP), so I’ve just set power, HR and pace zones to be consistent and give very similar TSS calculations.
However, I don’t use power for TSS, I use rTSS in TP. I think by default TP uses power, running pace and HR in that order of priority to calculate TSS. I don’t know if you can change this default - so since getting my S9PP I change every workout to rTSS at the same time as adding feeling/perceived effort. -

Thank you, Sounds good. I will try it and give answer how it works then

Set my zones Default Like this:
Zone 1 -60% HF max
Zone 2 60-70%
Zone 3 70-80%
Zone 4 80-90%
Zone 5 90-100 % BUT i have checked that the beginning from Zone 5 is my Treshhold Heart Rate. So i got definitely better results. I have now but big range in Zone 5 (166-182) but zone 5 define now my anaerobic capacity.In Trainingpeaks today i had hrTSS 68 and on my Suunto 58 that is okay!!! I think

@GiPFELKiND You also need to make sure your personal metrics like height and weight are also correct across platforms as those influence the TSS measures.

Where have you seen that? AFAIK only heart rate zones impact hrTSS…
-
@stromdiddily Sure, but HR is related to age, so the later does have an indirect impact on hrTSS.
-
This is a timely thread as I was going to ask the same question. I have hrTSS set as the default calc for running in Training Peaks (slick new feature actually), can the same be done in Suunto or is it forcing it still to use rTSS?
-
@stromdiddily you can set the same hrTSS in Suunto app
-
@GiPFELKiND should be closer than that. Mine are nearly identical.

@stromdiddily
How do you change the default TSS calculation in TP? I can’t find a way to do this in the app (iOS), do you have to do it on the website?
At the minute I have to manually change every run recorded with the Peak Pro from pTSS to rTSS. -
