All Trails
-
Decided to buy All trails+ and so far seems like it links up really well. These are the steps that I am using for those interested
- Open up All trails on a computer/laptop
- Download the gpx file of any trail you like
- email the gpx file, possibly cloud also works.
- Open the email on your phone, click on the gpx file, It will then ask if you want to open in the Suunto app
- On the Suunto app, it will then show the entire trail.
6.On the bottom of the suunto app make sure to select these 2 options (use in watch and turn by turn directions) - Push the checkmark on the upper right on the suunto app and the map will sync directly to the watch
Have already downloaded 2 maps and synced with my watch. It actually links really fast. would say the entire process only took a few min. Wish Suunto would have the same as Garmin connect to make it faster but maybe in the future.
Will report on how well the navigation works when we go out for a walk.
Hope those interested will find this really helpful.

@silverwolf1331 Thank you so much Thomas

@silverwolf1331 thanks for this. Do you get turn by turn navigation with the imported route?
-
@Umer-Javed Haven’t done a trail run yet. It did successfully sync into the watch as a route that I can navigate. Also seen that in the Suunto app it did ask if I wanted turn by turn navigation. Will do a trail run soon and report back the findings. Would be so cool if it actually works perfectly.

I can’t stop recommending plotaroute.com because it syncs directly with Suunto and has directions.

@trailcafe if i put waypoint on the route is it will include those waypoint when i import route to the SA?
-
@trailcafe one big benefit of AllTrails to me is finding community built routes when I visit new places. With lots of photos and trail conditions, it’s fantastic. Especially when I take people with me who may not be strong hikers, so I know what to expect.
Thanks for suggesting Plotaroute, hasn’t come across them before.

@silverwolf1331 Coming in a bit late on this topic - just wanted to add I also use Alltrails and works well as you described. I just finished 4 days backpacking in Canadian Rocky’s and download each days segment gpx route from Alltrails. Downloaded the Suunto offline map for Alberta, Canada. All functions worked perfectly, and much more accurate than the Polar and Garmin watches others were wearing (group deferring to me for ETA and elevation plots) and I was the only one who didn’t have to bring a charge cord. 4 days of hiking 6 hours a day was no problem. SA even accurately showed my whr spike when a grizzly came up a trail towards us and we had to do a lot of yelling to scare it off!

@mikekoski490 that is incredible. Love the Rockies. Especially since we live in Mississauga. We took a trip right after COVID but before they let the Americans in and it was incredible. Only negative, was that the whole province was covered in forest fires, and when we went rafting on either side of the raft helicopters were picking up water and extinguishing the mountain right beside us. Can’t imagine how it felt when the bear came close.
Thank you for the amazing info regarding Alltrails. So happy to hear that you had an amazing trip and it worked so well

@babychai yes and also its name is transferred to Suunto App

@Chris-Kusmider Thanks! On the forest fire smoke, we fully assumed the trip would either be cancelled or if not, limited views due to smoke. Ended up clear and sunny pretty much the whole time. On the grizzly (and cub), luckily we were in a group of 3 at the time which makes it rarer for grizzlies to attack. The 3rd person in this case was a solo backpacker who was on her 2nd month doing the Great Divide Trail and who had just passed us but walked back to us saying ‘there is a grizzly bear on the path and its following me back here’.

@trailcafe Laughed a bit when I heard the last part and thinking, then can you please walk in another direction away from us please loll.

I started using this fairly recently and I can also vouch for it. Total ascent seems to be more accurate than what it estimates in SA plus the plotting is more logical and intuitive
