Strange behavior of battery modes
-
Hello,
I am using a custom sport (commuting, based on bike sport).
The battery mode is always saved as “Custom”, but underlying settings are “Performance” based:
- When starting a new activity, I set “Endurance” for the battery mode (GPS on, HR on; all left unchanged compared to previous activity).
- On next activity, the battery mode reverted to “Custom”, but with “Performance” setting (battery estimations are equals). So “Endurance” setting is always lost.
I am also expecting to configure independently any battery related parameter (GPS accuracy, wrist HR, map, etc.). I cannot for example select “Ultra” mode and turn on wrist HR. When commuting, I don’t really care about GPS precision, but I want to turn on wrist HR to get relevant training loads (~ 1h of bike per day).
This is somehow related to https://forum.suunto.com/topic/8846/suunto-vertical-bug-collection/513

@bubuche
I maybe don’t understand the issue well.
whe you select a custom battery, it always uses this selection for this specific sport mode.
within a custom battery mode you can not select whether or not OHR is enabled or not, as this is done in the start screen and can be selected independently from best, good or ok gnss accuracy. -
@bubuche The watch always defaults to Custom when it is not equally configured as Performance (GPS best, Touch: map only and display timeout: off)
As far as I know, the watch never defaults to Endurance. The best thing you can do is modify the Custom mode to GPS: good, Touch: map only and display timeout: how you like.
The next time the watch will start in Custom mode again but the expected lifetime will be the same as Endurance. -

I was quite confused by your response first… and now I feel ashamed…
Actually, I never selected “Custom” in battery mode (as it looked like a “copy” of Performance for me), I always moved back to “Endurance”.
So I never get the fifth screen of https://www.suunto.com/en-gb/Support/faq-articles/suunto-vertical/how-do-i-get-the-most-of-battery-modes-with-suunto-vertical/ (the one where… you can configure GPS accuracy…)… I also understand why @freeheeler was confused.Thanks a lot!!

@bubuche I’ve seen a similar situation, I created a custom OWS mode and the battery defaults all the time to custom, I’ve changed it every single time to performance but for some reason it won’t stick, thoughts?

@herlas Change your settings in Custom as described above.
GPS: best
Touch: map only
Display timeout: offAfter that the watch will default to Performance for every new activity with the selected sport mode

@surfboomerang thanks, that worked
