Swimming pool activity : bug and suggestion
-
First about the bug : look to the following picture
As yo can see, Suunto distance is equal to zero. This is the first time I got this, I never encountered such problem with my Suunto Spartan Ultra.
I noticed that the watch did not record autolaps (because I swim in an Olympic pool, I got autolap every 100 meters).
And In strava, I can see the distance, this is strange. Then about the suggestion : it is sometimes difficult for the watch to detect u-turns. So I try so apply Suunto’s rule : “When turning, be sure to push yourself against the wall of the pool and then let yourself slide the other way.”.
But I noticed that when you’re on the last lap, you look at the watch, it displays the correct distance, then you stop your activity, and the watch decreases distance (decreasing equals to the pool length).
As you can see on the following picture, for these 2 sessions, 50 meters (pool length) are missing, and I can confirm that I saw the correct distance just before stopping the activity.
And Strava automatically replaced this with the correct distance (I do not know how strava can do that…)
So my suggestion : I’d like to be able to validate, increase or decrease distance at the end of the swimmig pool activity, by using top or bottom watch buttons==> Does anybody encountered such problems, with Vertical or another Suunto model ?

If I understand suunto’s target is mountaineer, Ultra runners. If water pool can be everywhere in the mountains, they may really want to fix it.

@Enrique-0 Thank you for the report.
The lap showing correctly the distance, but recording a length short, is known to Suunto.
Thx -
@Egika Thanks for this information. I hope it will be fixed in a next upgrade.

An additional bug is the inability of the SV to record breastroke style…several attempts without success, coros and Garmin on the other arm had no issue…

@Dante-Mclalla yeah, since old Ambit times (which had a swimming style teach-in feature), the swim style detection has not been working for me

Latest sw Vertical -> 2.30.38
If I finish training immediately after reaching the end of the pool then in strava I will have, say, 2499m, Suunto APP will show 2475m. Training peaks 2500m. The correct value is, of course, 2500m.
If I wait a while after reaching the end of the pool and only finish the training after a few seconds, the data is OK everywhere (watch, Strava, TP).
In addition to the above, there is also an error that occurs rarely (once a month) that the watch after a workout shows a distance of 0m and a TSS of 9999. However, after synchronizing with the app, the distance returns to normal and the TSS also.

@Maryn Suunto is investigating this, for now the working workaround seem to be to wait 7-10 seconds at the end before stopping the activity.

@isazi This is what I do
