@zhang965 Yes, and the Rest HR is not the minimum HR during Night…

I’ve adjusted it based on your comment, let’s see how it behaves. normally I’ve used my avg sleep HR plus 10 as rest HR.
I now took my 7 days lowest avg sleep HR as “rest” HR

@freeheeler okay exciting… kinda confusing. The posts of the other users also make sense to me. I chatted with Suunto… they tell me to set the minimum HR…

it used to be my rule of thumb, but it might have changed, maybe due to an updated algo? I don’t know, but will try and let you know my impression 🙂

@Sascha-Domres But wouldn’t lowering your RHR increase the amount of resources consumed by exertion, since you’d be even further away from a “resting” state? 🤔

makes sense, that’s why I’m trying now.
I’m just sitting there now, answering simple mail requests and it shows stressed… that wasn’t the case with RHR = avg sleep HR +10

@Ilya-Sul I tried the minimum HR at night as my Rest HR and had really low gain of ressources at night and high consumption of ressources at day without great activity…

it’s relatively reactive when you change settings.
I’ve tried with lowest sleep HR (7 nights avg) and have the feeling it got worse. maybe you can also try and play with it to find your best setting?
I don’t know the details behind it and didn’t have contact with support, but I for one stick to my old rule of thumb:
avg sleep HR +10 = RHR

@SuperFlo75 Yeah, the common “workaround” is to set a higher RHR than you actually have. The problem is that that probably affects various other metrics.

@freeheeler the support said that it takes a long time for the watch to ‘learn’… it’s important to wear the watch 24/7 for a long time… but I don’t know more details… I’ll stick with the HR minimum AVG settings for now. .

I have the following settings: the minimal HF is not the rest HF. Trying to explain: the minimal HF in night is the HF beats per minutes in totally chilling. The rest HF you can make a measurement in daytime, sit down 5 minutes and rest. Then make HF measurement. Thats your Rest HR. In daytime you will never get your night minimal HF. so you must set the day rest HF. mine minimal at night is between 46-50. I have set my day Rest HF to 70. So i get really good stress and Ressourcen goals. Try it! Frome the medical physician the minimal HF at night can never be the same as the rest HF.

Like zhang965 posted above I use the absolute minimum hr that I have seen at night as my resting hr which was 38 for me as per the suunto website? I read that as the minimum achieved not the average am I wrong?

I’ve discussed this topic with other, more experienced people.
I was convinced that RHR was gipfelkind’s suggestion: daily inactivity HR, which is basically nightly avg HR +10 (as a rule of thumb… maybe elbow…)

others have had good results with setting exactly 7 nights avg lowest HR as RHR, as it says in the manual.

I’ve again set it to this and will observe now for a longer period than 3-4 hours

For me, resources in Vertical are not working like in S9P. Not sure which one is right, but I have higher resources with Vertical. I did not get below 9% on Vertical after a 100+km trail race which left me shattered. Next day I was back above 40%. On S9P I was at 0%, next day barely any positive numbers 😄 - same race 1 year apart. Same was with other races or very hard/long training runs/rides. I think S9P managed resources better. Settings were the same.

That is because I believe this is all based off or is still using the first beat algorithms - and for Garmin’s this is how it works - off your min sleeping HR- which Garmin refers to as you RHR.
