Software Firmware Update Suunto Vertical?!

Jamie-BG please don’t get me wrong. I don’t intend to purposely just bash any brand, but i just give the real situation here, at least in my country of what is happening to suunto and the people experiences. @NickK is right in this one. Many stores refuse to carry suunto. Yes, garmin has bugs, coros has bugs, polar has bugs. But it seems, these bugs are not as killing to them as what happen to suunto. So for most, they voted with their wallets, and moved on from suunto, just like you said, go with something that works for them. I personally still have my 9 peak, but for majority out there in my country, suunto is , well, a past story and no or few retailer want to carry them anymore.
Again, yes, garmin has a lot of bugs, but the bugs , to the mass, here, are more tolerable, because , like Likarnik mentioned, the features at least outweight the bug, while unfortunately for suunto , since 9 baro, the bugs and features no longer tally, and thus, many people here moved on to something that works, and that spells the (near) end for Suunto in my country.
Welcome to Suunto community.

@zhang965 haha, thanks. I’ve been with suunto for long time, since ambit 3, and now holding on to 9 peak, but i have been told, by existing retailer, don’t hold my breathe for vertical. No one want them anymore here, and current distributor has already given up on suunto and suunto now looking for new distributor. Things are looking pretty grim here. If suunto vertical is launched late here, it will coincide with new fenix 7 pro series (which usually carry a lot of discounts here). At the nearly same price, guess what people will choose here?

Yes, agree with, but you can never wake a person who pretends to be asleep, hope you are having fun in Suunto community.

I am struggling with these kind of statements.
Not because they are not true etc.
I just don’t know where the information could be used. With a statement like “this is not acceptable” - what would anyone here expect to happen?
Guessing here:- Looking for affirmation? -> Yes, but this is obvious. Reboots are not acceptible. Still they are there. So what now?
- Make Suunto people work harder? -> I guess they are, plus a forum rant will not change it
- Make Suunto change their processes, because you think you know how it works better? -> really?
@NickK @Kk2n-Kk (so many K’s, but you are different individuals I guess): maybe you can tell me about what you expect to happen when you state that certain things for you are not acceptible.
Thx

Do now allow vacations or any other type of rest
(its a joke of course)

Everyone in Suunto’s hq now look like Warcraft peons saying “work, work”.
It makes me wonder if it would be possible to have firmware development split into bug fixing (qol) and feature development.
Waiting for new features is like meh, they are ready when they are ready. No pressure.
But having a premium product with what feels like a beta firmware is far from ideal.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel we do that. Hotfix is a branch that has only bugfixing mainly. That’s what’s coming up.
While in parallel features are developed.
The delay on the release is only due to testing.

I think this is what we all try to say, but some say it politely and some don’t. And for some of us English is not our first language so maybe we are not expressing like we should.

Its much different where I live I guess. We don’t really have long, in-depth, personal conversations with our ‘existing retailers’ about viability of certain brands and their future. Who has that kind of time? Even if I did, not sure what purpose passing on such musings on here is for exactly, other than to bash Suunto?
I like this forum for updates and tips, and that some on here use the community to help with bug reports to positively speed up fixes.

@mikekoski490 even if without conversation with retailers, it is already known fact over here, unfortunately, that Suunto is dying here. Very few to No one buys that anymore. In fact, there is only one brick and mortar shop left now selling Suunto , as opposed to myriads selling Garmin and coros. That’s the sad fact. As many “wished” over here, consumers here spoke with their wallet. They simply quietly abandon Suunto.
-
@Egika my wish is simple. A watch that does not reboot in middle of my workout. Sure I will still run even if it reboots, but I won’t spend thousand of dollars (price over here) for watch whose basic function is compromised, be it Garmin , Suunto or coros.
As of now, I still keep s9p which has stabilized, and I still hope vertical will come here , with bug fixed. But I won’t hope too much now .
Btw, I am software developer too. If I or anyone here make that fatal bug in my release, for sure my company either fire me straight or make sure I fix that in hours or days
-
@Kk2n-Kk sorry, but you do not have a Vertical, so how can you be bothered by a bug that you do not have? Trolling here maybe?
-
My two cents…
I had an Ambit 3 long time ago and after a short marriage with a Spartan, moved to Garmin (F3, F5, F6X, F7) for some years.
I received my Vertical last friday and I am happy. Has everything I need (maps are much better than Garmin maps IMHO) and do not has many functionalities I do not need/want. In addition, and this is another opinion, I think vertical looks better than any Garmin.
As mentioned… just my opinion.

@isazi I mentioned before, one of my running friend owned or used to own a vertical . We ran together. I watched his watch restarted and to make it worse, I was the one advising him to buy vertical. He ended up very pissed, returned it and got another brand now and swore never to touch Suunto again. What makes him pissed because he need to pay for shipping back to return it to Amazon US
-
@Kk2n-Kk I am sorry your friend had a bad watch experience, and I hope he is happy with the watch he has now.
-
@isazi he is. I seriously really really hope Suunto will come back here. I loves Suunto despite my critical feedback. My first ever running watch was Suunto and it was awesome… ambit 3. I have sentimental feeling towards Suunto and wants it to succeed. Like I said, I even persuaded my friend to buy one… Unfortunately…it did not end well
-
I don’t see major bugs on Vertical. Never crashed, never restarted, battery is amazing, maps also.
-
@Luís-Pinto this actually really make me wonder. I have no doubt some of you never encountered issue, but on the other hand, some also do encounter very fatal issue . I wonder if there is a hardware batch affected or just software?
-
@Kk2n-Kk i’m honest. Never experienced mandatory faults. Just personal experience.
