Battery drain

Dev team is still working on battery drain issues or corrections have been found ?
8% per day seems to me already high. It was not the case when i bought the vertical i think 1,5 year ago -

And this is not normal compared to the first time of the Vertical.
Like @SuperFlo75 :
I have my SV since June 2023, and I always used 24/7 OHR and sleep tracking and I didn’t use a HR belt.
Usually I had to charge my watch every 4 weeks with about 3-4 hours activity per week.
That was pretty much what we can read on the official Suunto website at the launch.
Today can you get the 60 days , even without OHR and sleep tracking ? I am really not sure.There is a little battery drain since summer 2024.
-
@Kramble this thread is about battery drain and yes there are efforts to correct that.
60 days without ohr + BT + other tracking stuff is possible afaik and from my experiences this summer.
It even charges from the sun for me.
I think there is a mix of what we are discussing about here:
- Unusual battery drain
- Battery expectations with different combinations of settings
Afaik from fieldtesting on the next release there is no drain reported. However I cannot know if today you had the vibra motor buzzing > 300 times because of modern life notifications that also power up the watch and screen and if that reduced your estimate compared to 1.5y ago that you were getting 100 notifications . I hope you get my point

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
When can we approximately expect a new update? -
@vidmarr before xmas i hope

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos hi dimitrios, if I may, I, like I think the other users who write in this forum, are not inexperienced users, otherwise we would not be writing on this and other threads. Before writing here, I waited 2 months, I did 3 hard resets, I tried to change settings, I tried to contact (without success) the support and only at the end I looked for a thread that talked about battery problems related to the 9PP, which was not present, and I opened a new topic, which was blocked by your moderator Sartoric, to whom I wrote yesterday but who has not yet responded. Furthermore, I am a senior IT developer and obviously I sent the watch logs via app, so as to provide as much information as possible to my colleagues who work for Suunto.
Reading your observation on the number of notifications and vibration that an inexperienced user could have set, is particularly annoying because it seems like a joke.
For every user who writes in this forum about these problems, there are 5-10 others who do not write and who keep the problem without complaining. I think we need more respect. -
@t-Dox I hear you but also no need to create a new thread I think. We do have many battery drain topics atm so lets keep this here.

What do you mean with the above?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos hi, thanks for the reply. back to us, yes but this thread is about the suunto vertical. A user who accesses this forum, like me at the beginning, is led to think that it talks about battery problems only of the suunto vertical, which is not exact.
Regarding my sentence that you quoted, I think I was clear enough. I understand your observation, as I think everyone in this forum, we are not stupid. I repeat that before opening a thread, we did tests, we waited months, we changed the configurations and we also turned off the notifications probably! if we come to report a battery life problem, it is because after all these tests, we have found that the problem is there. otherwise we would not be here wasting time writing in this forum. I have recommended my watch (9PP) to several friends, I have talked to them and they all have the same problem with the battery but I am the only one who wants to get informed and write about these problems on the internet. Those writing here are just a small (perhaps nerdier) portion of your customers.

I understand your point, but believe me it’s not an expectation but a real change after the summer update nothing to do with my notifications which didn’t increase suddenly in July 2024.
My guess of simple user is that the new watchface manager created a little battery drain which is noticeable on long term by users like me and @SuperFlo75 with the same habit of use every month.
Hope Suunto and you could fix it.By the way , nice for the 60 days.

@t-Dox Oh wow, so all hardware running modern firmware could be affected? Why was I under the impression that this was only about Vertical and Race, huh. I’ve been charging my 9PP about weekly while getting 10-12 h of running done and I’ve been happy with it. Could I / should I be getting more battery time?
-
Is the firmware getting force updated after a while despite your update settings?
Since the update that brought the sync issues this spring, I have been keeping automatic updates off so I have control over my watch and do not risk the chance of bricking it with an update. Since then, after further firmware updates were made available, I have been keeping an eye on this topic and waiting for a good time to update again, after the battery drain issue has been fixed for good and no new issues have been introduced.
This morning I woke up to my watch saying that it had been updated to a new firmware despite automatic updates being off. Not happy about that. Let’s hope I don’t run into any crippling issues, but confidence in Suunto has not been great since the sync issues.

Hi dear, I am not the best person to answer you, maybe Suunto technicians could be more informed and helpful about this. My friends and I have noticed a decrease in battery life following the latest updates, and mainly after the last one. For this reason I opened a thread about it, but it was immediately blocked as a duplicate of this thread… I tried to ask for explanations to the moderator who performed this operation but I did not receive any answers, so I thought of writing my experience in this thread, so that users could deny me or confirm the same problems so that the support is aware of it.
I personally think that, a year ago the battery lasted much longer, because the 24/7 heart rate monitoring initially was not constant but took a measurement per minute. Then following some update (I don’t remember which) suunto increased the frequency of the detections (hr). Then obviously it also depends on how many hours of activity are recorded, especially with GPS. However, I can tell you that until the beginning of 2024, I usually recorded 2-3 hours of indoor activity (without GPS) and two hours of mountain biking (with GPS) and charged the watch every 12-14 days with all the sensors active 24/7. Now it lasts me about 4-5 days, recording a few hours, mainly indoors.

@t-Dox
I also have Suunto 9 PP. I confirm that after the latest updates, battery consumption has increased significantly.
Cured by rebooting. -
@ist-1973 Hi guy, thanks for the testimony. I have done two hard resets, hoping something would be fixed, but without any success… I also thought that, if I were not the only one to think it was a good idea, we could ask for an improvement to be developed: that is, the backup of the settings on the smartphone app: For every problem, the support always recommends a reboot but this is a bit boring, because all the settings are always lost. I think it would be very simple to save the watch settings on a file or Json, on the app and be able to restore the settings after the much-recommended reset. What do you think?
-
@t-Dox Its a pain in the head (? ) to loose the custom sport modes for me. I wish there can be some backup on the app side for this.

hi dimitrios, sorry but I don’t know if I understood well the first part about the headache (do you mean yours or mine )… anyway yes maybe those are the most boring part to reconfigure, I don’t know how complex it is for developers to implement a similar backup, it’s just an idea that came to me after a hard reset

https://forum.suunto.com/post/84764hi, i hadn’t read the posts you linked. Yes i didn’t mean that my idea was brilliant and original. it’s simply something i thought like probably many other users and that it’s right to share with the support so that it is considered useful and to be developed…

24 hours now with the update. Due to injury I only had a short one mile walk last evening with GPS and external HRM. Only 2% loss in 24 hours.
-
@larrybbaker How do you get that kind of battery life!? I’m down 7 percent in the last 4 hours (with one 30 minute activity)
24/7 HR is on, notifications off
