Battery drain
-
@duffman19 I think Suunto is aware of the issues. In the mean time, I workaround with a soft reset after the actvity if I had entered the actvity settings menu and leave the watch face up if I don’t wear it.
This gives me between 4-6 weeks including GPS actvities. Hopefully the workarounds aren’t necessary after the next firmware update.

This is not a solution .
In fact it’s a workaround as said several times in this thread.
resetting also resets your steps
Not with a soft reset (12sec button press)
and resources for the day
maybe the graph, didn’t check the value before resetting

@Sorin-C This has been shared multiple times on the forum. The battery drain issue is still under investigation. We’ve already had an update that addressed some of the reported problems. I don’t have any more info than anyone else, but I know it’s a priority for Suunto.

I hadn’t seen it mentioned that they are aware of the battery drain while not wearing the watch, but I hope you are correct. I’ve been sharing my experience in hopes of helping to find a solution. For me, the drain appears to be directly related to how the watch is positioned when off the wrist. I would think this would imply a sensor issue, but which sensor, I don’t know.
I no longer have the post-activity drain after the last update, whether I enter the activity settings menu or not, while wearing the watch. I’m only seeing it when removed from the wrist.

Yes it has been shared multiple times in this forum but this post has been created in May 2023!!! One and a Half year later the issue still persists. One and a half year!!! I’ve been patiently waiting but the last battery drain event during a trail running / camping trip weekend got me upset
Winter and ski touring and such is coming up. I really want it to work seemingly without fiddling around with soft resets constantly . I love my Suunto it’s a wonderful watch but this is one issue driving me nuts.
-
@duffman19 I have put my watch on it’s side this week - instead of face down… maybe… less drain?
-
@larrybbaker Why not just turn off 24/7 wrist HR tracking when you leave the watch on the table?
-
@iterumtenta it is off.
-
@larrybbaker I did a very short experiment, but it is telling none the less. Last night I took my watch off and placed it on its side. Overnight (~8 hours) it lost 0% (91-91%). In the morning, I turned it face down. It lost 6% in less than 3 hours (91-85%). I then recorded a 2 hour activity and saw a 3% drop (as expected). I have since left the watch face up and it has yet to drop a percentage (only about 2 hours so far).
For my watch, position clearly makes a difference. Something about having it face down causes a severe battery drain. Whether it’s related to the ambient light sensor or perhaps the gyroscope/accelerometer, I really don’t know. It makes no sense, but it is clearly happening.
-
@duffman19 interesting since that is supposed to be it’s “sleep mode” if I recall.
-
Last night, I performed a soft reset and left the Vertical on the table as usual. However, I didn’t notice that the top right button was accidentally pressed, which kept it in the activities menu and resulted in a 15% battery drain overnight.
-
I have Vertical Solar for the first week. What is your average battery consumption per week? Is 40% per week normal? I use 24/7, average an hour/hour and a half of activity each day, notifications off. I can’t use solar much anymore, no sun when it’s fall/winter
-
@martintrail With this use, normal day use is around 2-4% max/ day with no exercice. 1 to 1h30 activity / day should add around 2% of consumption/day.
If it’s you’re first battery cycle, you need a full cycle first, battery should calibrate properly. -
@martintrail
2.37.48 installed
1st November 100% charge battery
18 November 38% remaining-training hours 29 (trail run mainly- openwater swim - mtb)
- always PERFORMANCE battery mode-
sometimes with map navigation and backlight ON at 6 night sessions.
hr always ON
*daily use everything OFF hr / steps / no connections with mobile / etch… only watchtime use.

@gerasimos hard reset yesterday…

@thanasis A friend of mine has a S9PP with a new battery and it lasts only a few days. In the evening the watch has 20% and in the morning 2%-3%. The watch is unusable at the moment.
-
my battery consumption is higher than others here report. I get 8-10% a day with use as I write. I’ll wait for it to discharge to 0 and then we’ll see. So far it’s not too bad, but nothing great either
-
My Vertical had monday evening 79% battery when i left my watch in the closet.
2 days later without using watch i only have 57% left…
All those updates later Suunto can’t solve the problem of huge battery drain…
When will this be solved? Or never…??? -
I tried resting my watch on its side as opposed to face down when not using it. I am still seeing the unusual drop. What is interesting to me is that it seems like up to 65% of battery is a slower loss but once it gets below that it seems to drain faster?
-
@thanasis never dohard reset.
I just drained battery once time 0% and the others about 15%-20% and full charge again.
After last update i charge as usual and i have the results above.
Small faster drain Problems i had only in the first software for two or three cycles of charge again now im ok
