Battery drain
-
Quite frankly , this battery drain issue really undermines my trust in the watch. I’m hesitant to take it on any multi day trips or full day activities because how can I trust that the battery won’t die. It’s the whole point of this pretty expensive watch. Suunto needs to fix this. They just started earning customer trust back and headed in the right direction but this is very frustrating for anyone who relies on the watch when out and about in rough terrain be it backcountry skiing, mountaineering , long distance running etc.

Just as a note, maybe you’ve missed it, soft reset usually (temporarily) fix the drain in watch mode.
Personally I don’t worry that much for a day long activity.
In case of multi days, I soft reset after the activity atm and anyway it never lasted shorter than 5 days -
You shouldn’t have to soft reset a 700 dollar watch after each activity. In case you have not noticed resetting also resets your steps and resources for the day. This is not a solution . Its not ok

@BastMaSVSRS9PP Just a little patience. It’s only a temporary workaround, not a permanent solution, so it’s totally fine.

I have left Vertical in the table (I’m wearing Race S this week), the only thing i do with it is sync to App in the morning and yesterday I changed one custom sport setting and the watchface. This morning battery has dropped 10% in the night, been in the table.
I’ve observed the exact same behavior and posted about it a few times above. In fact, it just happened again recently where I left the watch face down and it dropped from ~45% to 10% in less than 2 days. So I charged to 100% before recording an activity and then took the watch off again. This time, however, I placed it on its side (buttons facing down with the strap supporting it). After 1.5 days the battery dropped only 1%.
@jjpaz and others who have experienced the battery drain while off the wrist, how did you set your watch down? I think the assumption would be that face down is best so that the OHR is not activating. But, perhaps, this is actually causing the problem? The ambient light sensor is located on the face, but I can’t imagine that would be the issue. I’m scratching my brain as to why this might be.

@iterumtenta Nice! I hope you know some insider info!

@duffman19 I think Suunto is aware of the issues. In the mean time, I workaround with a soft reset after the actvity if I had entered the actvity settings menu and leave the watch face up if I don’t wear it.
This gives me between 4-6 weeks including GPS actvities. Hopefully the workarounds aren’t necessary after the next firmware update.

In fact it’s a workaround as said several times in this thread.
resetting also resets your steps
Not with a soft reset (12sec button press)
and resources for the day
maybe the graph, didn’t check the value before resetting

@Sorin-C This has been shared multiple times on the forum. The battery drain issue is still under investigation. We’ve already had an update that addressed some of the reported problems. I don’t have any more info than anyone else, but I know it’s a priority for Suunto.

I hadn’t seen it mentioned that they are aware of the battery drain while not wearing the watch, but I hope you are correct. I’ve been sharing my experience in hopes of helping to find a solution. For me, the drain appears to be directly related to how the watch is positioned when off the wrist. I would think this would imply a sensor issue, but which sensor, I don’t know.
I no longer have the post-activity drain after the last update, whether I enter the activity settings menu or not, while wearing the watch. I’m only seeing it when removed from the wrist.

Yes it has been shared multiple times in this forum but this post has been created in May 2023!!! One and a Half year later the issue still persists. One and a half year!!! I’ve been patiently waiting but the last battery drain event during a trail running / camping trip weekend got me upset
Winter and ski touring and such is coming up. I really want it to work seemingly without fiddling around with soft resets constantly . I love my Suunto it’s a wonderful watch but this is one issue driving me nuts.
