@loopylou72 in Suunto i don’t use stryd, because I don’t want to have to calibrate every single run,cause i have multiple pairs of shoes and each one have a different calibration factor. I use stryd only with Garmin because it allows use stryd only as a source of power, distance and pace came from Garmin. And what i found with the race,and i assume with the vertical is the same, they have great gps readings but Suunto is more reliable in instant pace and in pace changes is much more responsive than my forerunner 955 and Fênix 7. Kudos to Suunto, this is a great watch

@tiago This is true. I don‘t miss Stryd with the Suunto because fusedSpeed is working great for me. Stable pace when no changes and fast enough reaction during my intervals. That’s not true at all when using my garmin

So I was waiting to buy Stryd at BF, but now I don’t know if I should pull the trigger?
I would mostly use it for a better pace when on treadmill as this is bothering me a lot. The new solution when you can edit the distance at the end of the workout is probably fine for steady state running but should not work ok for intervals…
But if I buy it I would also like to use it on the road.
I use 4 or 5 different shoes.

@Ketoohs there are a lot of other metrics Styrd provides that make it worth it if you are going to use it. If you are going to train with power zones and use the app and Power dashboard, programs for training etc. I have bever heard this about calibration and shoes. I have used Stryd for quite a few years and the only issues I have had with distance have been when I had auto-calibrate on. I am not sure what happened yesterday to get 300m extra in a 10km race! I also like it in the treadmill especially with Zwift.

I’ve not used stryd much with Suunto as I’m new to Suunto (testing out the waters with a 5 peak). However, I have been using stryd with my phone and iSmoothRun for 3 years and base a lot of my training on power. Regarding distance from stryd I’ve always found it very good - it’s certainly more accurate than gps in summer on tree covered canal path routes, and in races the differences to the km markers are usually due to me taking a ‘racing line’ round corners. I’ve never attempted to re-calibrate between shoes but have noticed I need to drop target power ranges about 10w for sessions or races when running trails compared to road - could be the shoes, could be the surface, could be a bit of both. I do note that the latest stryd pod supports “profiles” so you can specify the kind of session you are doing and, I assume, the shoe you are wearing and it can adjust its algorithm automatically.
Stryd does offer a lot more than just power, pace and distance. I’ve not made huge use of the more advanced metrics and the Running Stress Balance scores are basically the same idea as the TP TSB so no gain there but the critical power curve, the race power predictions in the app and the website based course analysis and predictor calculator (which do require the subscription) are very useful both for mapping pace-based workouts to power and for planning a race. I’ve not used the stryd training plans but they also look decent (although I don’t think they sync to Suunto).

@loopylou72 I think @RightNow is referring to the fact that your Suunto and your Stryd both need to know your current weight in order to calculate accurately.

@tiago so I did the comparison runs, Vertical power and my old Peak connected to Stryd as a foot pod not calibrated. My weight the same on all devices. This time the Stryd gave less distance 6.25km with 155w (in the race I had more distance) and 9w more power than the Vertical 6.36km with 146w (mayeb due to the difference in distances). Was on a rocky trail but open on a ridge. In my miler I will use the Vertical GPS and the Stryd separately not connected to my watch and see what I get! Thanks for everyone’s help.

@loopylou72 I use stryd uncalibrated on Garmin,but the distance and pace came from Garmin,is a big plus on Garmin we have that option and in all of my runs the difference between Suunto Race power and Stryd is about 1 or 2 wats most of the times,I even did a offline sync with stryd to check if the power numbers are the same provided by Garmin+stryd and in my 6 runs with both in the end the power was almost the same on both. The only situation where stryd could be more reliable as source of power is in runs where you have strong head wind, because Suunto doesn’t have wind detection like stryd.

@loopylou72 so I used the Stryd separately in my race but out of habit offline synced it with the app, and it merged which watch data, not sure how that can happen as I didn’t use Stryd connected to my watch at all. I guess my watch was set to upload to the Stryd app? Is there a way to see only the Stryd data?

@loopylou72 in order to only have stryd data you can’t have your Suunto account connected with stryd, otherwise the data from Suunto goes to stryd

What happens if you connect the Stryd pod as a power pod instead of a foot pod. Is that possible? It seems only power is used in that case.

Hi Stryd users, can I just confirm the usage of a Suunto with and without the new Suunto+ Stryd app and what to pair my Stryd as.
My understanding is that if I use the Suunto+ Stryd app it will display some of the metrics in realtime, but I think I have read somewhere that you need to remove the connection to the Stryd to get it to pair from the app. Can anyone confirm?
If I did not want to use the Suunto+ app and just paired the Stryd to the watch I would still get power readings from the pod and would need to do the double sync method to get the gps watch track into PowerCenter with the full metrics? To which what do I pair as; power pod or foot pod?

@FunkyLarma correct, you won’t be able to use the new S+ Stryd app if Stryd is enabled as footpod or power pod under the sensors option in the pre-run screen, no need to remove Stryd completely from the watch, just make sure you turn it off in sensors when you want to test the S+ app.

For the other Qs, the new S+ is not a replacement of the offline sync, in fact, I’ve just discover from Stryd directly they’re not merging their data with Suunto when we use the new S+ app, the feature is not there, so basically you’ll have two workouts in power center, this is not good at all.
And you can pair it as power pod if you only want power data coming from Stryd, if you want power, distance, pace and cadence from the Stryd, pair it as footpod, heck, you can pair both ways and it’ll work.
I always use it as footpod (don’t forget to turn off auto calibration after pairing), I like having 0 issues when I run through underpass in my city, or GPS affected by very tall buildings ( city runner here ) etc etc.
And when I’m doing power-based intervals I also enable it as power pod to get power avg lap reported on the lap screen instead of avg pace

@herlas thank you for the reply, I did find your feedback review after I posted; just finding my feet in the forum.
It does kind of feel like a missed opportunity with this ‘integration’ at present. Not sure if this is the start of a deeper integration but the lack of recording all metrics and the syncing does not really feel like using the app has much benefit.
Personally, like you, I prefer the pace coming from Stryd as it does feel more responsive; at least on Garmin and Wahoo. Most of my workouts are power based but I’m not looking at Air Power or Form during a workout, post analysis yes but when you have your head down I just want to know if I’m hitting targets. Which sort of puts me in the ‘pair as a foot pod’ camp.Also did note your comment on Suunto Guides for Stryd workouts, which would be great. Currently I build most of mine in TrainingPeaks and so far have made the most of the Stryd plans or workouts. Fingers crossed for deeper integration.
