Suunto Vertical is here

@lessthanmore now we can brag with new watch
-
@Likarnik I am already bragging: editing every description
The name is not reflected though to past activities. Shame on them -

Suunto Vertical is now displayed properly in Strava
Well I had better get out for a run tomorrow then!
-
GNSS accuracy is really incredible for such a small device. I’m deeply impressed as geodesist.
-
@Mitch9 I am deeply impressed also. I use to work also with professional gnss devices for my work.
My yesterday’s run was really fun because the track show clearly a small swerve I made to avoid a swarm of bees
-
@v-sacre If it was me (alergic to bees) it would also show spike in the HR Maybe increased pace too (sprinting?)
-
@Hristijan-Petreski
We can actually see a HR bump at this location
See the red circle on my dual capture here under between OHR with Suunto Vertical and H10 Polar band.Despite a big spike at the beginning of the run, the rest of the OHR is quite good in comparison with H10 polar band. Did 2*2min intervals to test how OHR would react.
-
@v-sacre Yes I too get decent OHR when running and exercising. Where it really struggles is while biking (too low) even though it’s not too loose or tight. But you cannot get it all can you
-
@Hristijan-Petreski It is the first time for me that Suunto device give me coherent results with OHR. With all previous devices, the OHR always showed bias around the cadence values. Typically the first bump we see on my dual capture here above, but this time it get back on track directly.
-
@v-sacre So far SV fares better than S9PP in the OHR department for me, which is kind of surprising given conventional wisdom seems to imply larger devices produce worse OHR due to more bounce on your wrist because of the weight and height.
No cadence locks thus far, no sudden spikes. Will see how things look come fall when the temperatures start to drop.
-
@Hristijan-Petreski Me too. My S9B always locked to the cadence during the first ~15mins. It was weird going 170-180 in 1 min even on easy runs. But I never since used OHR, except for hiking and some core/yoga stuff. Even then s9b was too low and now SV is quite good actually.

There is a hotfix release being prepared so we wanna get your covered.
I’m asking the forbidden question here. Any ETA on the hotfix release?
-
The build quality and engineering on this watch is just incredible second to none. Suunto have outdone themselves. I hope this company continues to make watches in Finland to be this standard. Bravo suunto

@surfboomerang no one here here can make promises or predictions, but putting your money on June would not be a too bad decision imo.
It is currently being worked on.
…still unforeseeable events can can always happen… -
Sorry i question was already asked
To download a map in SV, watch need to be connected to Wifi, and maps selected in SA. All these task needs SA, thus the phone/tablet…Download will be triggered once SV will be on charger.
But, should SA and the phone need to be near the watch for ALL the downloads to happen, or all informations for all map download are send to the watch once and then watch is autonomous to download everything as long as on charger ?
Use case : you left home with your phone with you and SV is working alone for many Gb downloads
-
@Mff73 omg, not acceptable to leave home without SV!

as long as we accept to wait for map download , sometime no choice
[edit] or put SV on powerbank and connect it to cell phone wifi hotspot
-
@Mff73 no need to keep phone connected to the watch while downloading.
You select the maps using the app.
Then connect watch to charger within range of Wifi and leave the house with your phone.
Maps will load. You just get the convenience to check the download status on the phone while it is connected (and this might change in future as well)
-
@Egika
thanksI understand that wifi may consume lots of battery, thus having to put it on charge to ensure nothing will break due to battery.
But i can’t help thinking about “map updates” and not just initial download.
If battery life is so enormous, we may not put the watch on charger so often (for battery needs), but maps may not be updated until put on the charger ?OK, everything is still changing i guess.
other question (maybe no asnwer yet ) : map update = “just update” or “full redownload” ? Hoping it could be just updating “modified” map tiles
-
@Mff73 in a future update should be just the changed parts, but this is not implemented yet, so current solution is remove and download again.
