I’m thinking to buy the Suunto Vertical but have doubts for the base model and the solar version.
The solar steel costs now 699€.
Amazon Spain, i can buy the non solar all black version for 520€.
I use my watch for long distance hiking.
Sometimes in forests, during nights …
Can i benefit from the solar version or is it more a gimmick in my use?
Living in Belgium, so i don’t live in a sunny country.
Is the solar version 179€ extra worth it or not?

          Thanks for advice!

@Ultrawalker hard to say for you. With 300 d of sunshine a year here in Colorado USA definitely worth it. Plus, the titanium is worth it for me, much lighter.

@Ultrawalker I live in the Netherlands and the days when solar is useful are few, but I bought the solar model anyway cause I can save some battery during summer trips. The non solar battery would still last for 60 hours with GPS though, so if saving those 200€ makes sense for you go for non solar.

@Ultrawalker you get a free Sonic headphones if you buy the Titanium solar on the offical site. Maybe this will convince you.

@Ultrawalker I live in the Netherlands and the amount of sunlight isn’t really that much. You need direct sunlight to really benefit from it so hikes in summer can be ok, but if you go into the woods the solar panel is almost useless.

The only time I really benefit from it is during windsurfing on a sunny day.

@Ultrawalker I believe both have 32gb of internal storage so they should be able to handle the same level of maps/tracking. I would say either would fit your needs quite well, I went with Solar as titanium is more bio compatible with me (some nickel and stainless alloys bother me a bit).

@Ultrawalker As a user of Titanum + Solar, i think better option for new Vertical would be non-solar titanum instead of stainless + solar. But its just my opinion and I have my solar since like 4 months, so also in my country i havent used solar so much. Sunny days just started here, but remember its only my opinion.

                        Hello everyone…

I wonder that, is tracking my sleep possible, without tracking HR all day…

I mean, I dont want HR sensors operate all day… they just can be active, while I am sleeping.

I activated sleep tracking, but deactivated all day hr tracking. I just think vertical gonna activate the hr sensor when started to track my sleep. But no… following morning it says “no sleep tracking”.

So am I have to activate it every single night before go to sleep?

@Sezer-Yiğit how do you think it knows when you are sleepig? HR is main source of sleep detection

@Matija-S what @Sezer-Yiğit wonders, is that if daily HR tracking and sleep HR are independant.

@Sezer-Yiğit they are not. So for now you’ve undersdoot : you must activate HR tracking before going to sleep.

But my question is : why do you want daily HR off ? if for battery consumption, just understand that it has a very low impact on battery life, so I where you I would let HR tracking on.

@Tieutieu thank you for the answer.

I wanted to turn off daily hearth tracking for two reason… without sleep tracking, daily tracking is just give me an information with “sources” widget and it has no much meaning for me.

So, thats why I dont want to use battery for this. I did not know that the daily hearth rate tracking has a minor efect on the battery. Because there is a warning in the User guide that said using hr tracker results as more battery consumption.

@Sezer-Yiğit I have HR turned off, also sleep tracking turned off, and don’t really notice much difference on battery usage to when I had these recording.

@Tieutieu I recently changed my settings and went from charging every 10-12 days (about 8-10% daily battery discharge) with backlight medium, raise to wake high, standby off, main backlight off with 24/7 tracking of HR/SPO2

to now 23 days (4.3% daily battery discharge) by adjusting the backlight to low.

@Sezer-Yiğit I would estimate it closely to what Suunto specifications are at 30 days with 24/7 HR tracking. Based on how I have mine set up and getting 23 days, completely dark (raise to wake off) should be able to get another 7 days’ worth of battery and HR on. I haven’t been utilizing the solar portion since I have been testing the backlight discharging.

The time only at 60 days seems true, but I would just wear a dedicated watch at that point if that is what I was interested in.
