Sleep tracking while charging the watch
-
Last night I left my watch charging on a table and this morning it said “Good morning”. It told me I had slept 6 h 34 min, which is, actually, quite right this time. But, this made me wonder, if this is ok, that the watch detects this as a sleep time? I could’ve left the watch charging and go to bar for a few beers, and still it would have showed I was sleeping. Any thoughts on this? Maybe a bug in the FW? Shouldn’t WHR models use the optical sensor to detect, if the watch is worn anyway?

Normal behavior, you left on the charge which detected no movement after and started as sleep start you picked the watch after and that’s the movement which detected and counted as sleep end, all is based on the sleep sleeping hours set by you.
Watch do not have AI to detect your snore or moving while not wearing it… -
@slash yep, I got it how it works, so not a bug, but more like a bad feature. But my point was, is it right that way? To me no movement at all would mean that the watch is not worn, or the person wearing the watch is dead, so that time should be marked for example as ”not-worn-time”, not sleep time.

@jani-kaikkonen so how you think watch should detect that you drink beer instead of the sleep while it charges? I don’t know what kind of watch you are using, but if you want watch to not detect sleep turn ofF DND during the night. For WHR watch types I would implement HR detection if 4 cycles of hr check is missed that means that watch is not on the hand = stop sleep tracking and mark as not monitored night.

@slash SSSWHR is what I use, so exactly, as you said, checking the hr would be the way.
Polar M430 had very good FW to determine if the watch was worn or not. I guess it had to be combination of accelometer and ohr, but it detected almost istantly if I took the watch off my wrist. Actually it was maybe the only good feature I miss on it

@jani-kaikkonen same with Fitbit and Farmin, but I don’t miss inaccuracies in sport profile there
