Tour mode
-
Interested to hear if anyone has actually gone on an adventure and used this feature? I’m off overseas in a couple months and thought I might take my S9B and put it into Tour mode (as an experiment) and track my progress across Scotland (and then Norway). I know it tracks every hour, and I’m happy with that (not expecting accurate GPS tracks etc).

@Jeffrey-Tillack I know some people that tested it by leaving their watch on a tree in their garden, not many that went on a 300 hours adventure just to test battery life.
-
@Jeffrey-Tillack Why not take with you a light power bank up to 5000 mAh and charge the watch when needed?
-
@skifun I have plenty of places I can charge up but I was just interested in leaving it go for 170 hours and see the outcome . We’ll be driving, stopping, hiking, and then driving some more. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone use Tour mode or Garmins version in any article etc. So thought I might give it a go and use my Suunto 7 to track my normal days activities.

@Jeffrey-Tillack Good luck with your experiment and have a nice vacation

@Jeffrey-Tillack I tested this prior to release on a five day trek across the Western US while driving, hiking and running.
-
@Brad_Olwin have you got a link to that activity? interested to check it out
-
@Jeffrey-Tillack No, the watch sat in the window of an RV and was on my wrist just to test. I did not keep the activity. I only keep workouts to assess training load, etc.

@Jeffrey-Tillack
I used it on a week long kayaking trip, I started it at the beginning and left it running (maybe I paused it at one point, I can’t fully remember), but you can see the general idea -
@MarcW that’s very cool. Only a couple months to go and I’ll be in Scotland’s highlands. It’ll be interesting to see the route over 5 days (and then another 5 days), plus Norway. A good way tp document the trip.

@Jeffrey-Tillack I’d suggest testing it out… configure the sport modes settings first also (turn auto-laps off etc), maybe use it on a commute to work or something, or just wear it for the day as a dry test.
I personally like to have each day split down (so record one day of activity with best GNSS performance), then I can write a little summary of each day and have photos, like chapters of a book.
But the tour mode if used properly in some long distance hike is very tempting to use…I’m just only walking 5-10km at a time
