Suunto 9 Baro crashes / restarts at the beginning of a training

@TyreseJ4 why would I remove it ? It’s totally ok to speak freely. No need to only contribute here btw.
You are always welcome to chat or even express how things are on the “other side”
What I wanted to express is that we should move on with negativity, it does not help us as beings.

It started to happen more and more since I moved to another address where there is a kind of GPS cloud area. And then happened on another clouded area nearby. Maybe it´s a GPS sync or Resync problem?
-
@TiagoSPM and in my case the activity screen was freezing for 3-10 seconds a few times and then it crashed.
-
So today I had my first restart, after 4 days of skiing
-
@Pavlas are you testing the new firmware with the fix?
-
I have the same issue. Bought a new 9 Baro directly from Suunto in January. Every 2nd-3rd activity the watch would blank out and restart a minute or so after I started the activity. I contacted Suunto who told me to hard reset it with the Suunto computer software which I did.
Now it has worked great for 10 activities or so, but today it went blank again an rebooted after 4 km running when taking a short pause. Guess I have to contact Suunto support again… It’s not reliable at all unfortunately
-
@isazi No…
-
@dryflypurist contact @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos because there is a fix being tested, and all people trying it so far had no reboots.
-
@Pavlas ask @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos if you want to test it.
-
@isazi Thank you! You mean this firmware?

@Pavlas oh yes, that one I believe

I got a mail from Suunto customer support today which was a very decent reply on the issue. The acknowledged the issue and told me they’re working on it and if I wasn’t into sending it in for service, they could provide me with a firmware update which was still in work/testing. - Which I believe would be the one shared here.
Anyway, I think this was a positive action from Suunto and I’m way more positive to keep the watch now and just wait for the official release. In my experience it’s rare that companies answer this honest. Kudos to Suunto in my opinion

Hello!
In the patched firmware I get very low step counts during exercise. 7km run 2650 steps.
The clock calculates well because the widget numbers are good. Thanks
-
I’ve sent another mail to their support agreeing to try out the new unfinished firmware. Sent the email after I had the watch reboot on me 3 times when trying to do a treadmill run. The 4th time it finally worked. It will be interesting to try the unreleased firmware. Hopefully it does the trick as others has reported️

Soon there will be a public release with the fix. ETA 1-2 weeks or so
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos just the fix or new things also?
-
@DMytro only fix for this release

So today this happened again (why not?), not only once, but three times (set up the training > start > crash > set up > start > crash > set up > start > crash), and after the last time, the watch shows this screen:
Now I connect the watch to my PC, and Suunto Link says “Watch reset required”
I have sent the logs. Hope this help.
One month after the final straw, I can make a summary. Since the time when the watch finally ran into an error that required a hard reset, the crash/reboot has happened four times:
- 2 consecutive times (i.e crash-reboot-immediate crash) about one week later (~27th Jan)
- 1 time about one more week later (~4th-5th Feb)
- 1 (last) time today (22nd Feb)
Between those days, the watch magically survived. Despite that, the crash today was decisive, as I didn’t notice it (over-confidence ) until 45mn later when the exercise finished It also happened to a biking exercise, instead of a running exercise as usual, another reason why I didn’t notice it. I decided then to downgrade the firmware to the previous version, and hope for the best.
I will come back with another post later about the new experience with the downgraded firmware. So, three weeks have passed since I downgraded the watch to the previous firmware. Even though there is now a solution for the problem from @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos, since I promised to update the status of the downgrade, I will give it anyways, for the last time, I believe Since the last three weeks, the crash/reboot issue did not show up even once, as expected. That’s it, I think there’s no need for future update on this downgraded firmware anyways.

Okey, so to follow up me previous posts, I asked support to send me the firmware file. I’ve went through the updating process and I wonder if I was sent an earlier firmware? My watch now says v 2.20.30 and wants to update to the recent v 2.23.20.

@chargerunner
same after crash situation for me today.
The good thing though: I just remembered that you a fix for this particular issue…
So now my watch is resetted and i lost all my training modes. This the worst part for me, now I need to rebuild all that good stuff. This is really frustrating.
Since downgrading is in my opinion not an option, I really hope that there will be an update for this bug soon.
And I am convinced suunto can do it
See you outside.
