Overall performance issues with suunto 9 baro (watch being slow and laggy)
-
Hi, I have had suunto 9 baro for quite a while and didnt really care about it being laggy and slow (by slow i mean everything being delayed/stuttery when interacting with the watch) not only with the touch screen but also the buttons, the watch feels like i am using a 20 eur ebay watch with alot of added features
so my question is: what should i do to make it more responsive and not lag so much or can we even do something about it, it has started to become annoying to use the watch -
@KarteL
suunto has recently improved the performance and I notice it being better.
I assume you did the recent update to benefit from this improvement. if not, please do.
there’s nothing else you can do. I am using my S9B for more than 3 years now and can live with what we have as a compromise of having a very reliable device.If you want to have a snappy watch that reacts instantly on your input, I can highly recommend to upgrade to the S9 Peak Pro.
not only is it snappier, it also charges faster, lasts longer, the display is better etc -
@freeheeler i do have my watch updated to newest version, and if i would have to buy a new watch just to have better performance then that would mean im not going to get suunto… dont get me wrong the watch is relieable and gets everything done as i want but it being laggy and delayed response is starting to annoy, i hope there was like a scaled down update option where you could select what you want to be removed and what you want to keep so you would have less features but better performance

@KarteL
yes it’s up to date.
sorry I can’t help any further. -
Factory reset the watch,
-
@KarteL How many time have yo been using it? Is it been always so slow or is it been increasing over time?
My feeling is that after an upgrade (or a factory reset) S9B (and S9P) feels fresher and faster, but become slower over time.
I have noticed that with my watches.As other have suggested, try a factory reset and compare the performance. If the watch continues feeling slow for your requirements then you should look for another model or watch.

For me, Suunto watches always felt laggy. But specifically for s9b, they made it look even laggier by putting this horribly slow HR screen just next to the default watchface. So whenever you try to go down, you have to scroll pass this HR screen and it takes probably around 1 second delay till you can go further down. And there’s no way to move it or disable it at all. In Ambit era you could have disabled the screens. Now you are stuck with what you got.
If you ask me, I’d love to disable that screen completely or burry it somewhere where it would not bother me. This small change would make s9b interface feel much more smooth. But I guess it’s too late now. I don’t believe they would be making any substantial changes to interface for watches that are close to be discontinued.

Suunto testers are over aged… if the watch’s interface moves too smooth, they cannot follow it.
S9PP gets better, like 60 years old vs 80 years old which is S9B
my solution is only using the first screen… never touche the button

@zhang965
Well, the good news then is that at some point in the future it’s going to suit me, right? -
@jjpaz its been slow since i got it, i havent noticed much of a difference after previous resets but i will give it another try and will see if its any better and will let everyone know how it went

UPDATE:
yes the watch is a little less laggy and slow but still not as responsive as i want it to be… i guess its time to sell/trade the watch,
any reccomendations other than suunto? -

any reccomendations other than suunto?I just got a Suunto 9 baro to play with. In the past I had s9p, and as far as I can tell the Suunto 9 peak was sluggish than this, so I believe Suunto has improved this along the firmwares.
This was heavily discussed on other topics.
If you want to change brand just for that I can tell you that any forerunner 45 , 245, fenix 6, 945 , etc will be much faster.
But at the current state Suunto “slugginess” isn’t as anoying as it used to be.
S9pp has improved also from what I’ve read -

Just out of curiosity (really) , if your experience is that bad , how come you still buy suunto watches ? S9B , s9p and S9pp are not that much different after all ?
My s9p btw after the last firmware update is better but has definitely worse battery life , sluggish watch face (I use the one with the baro graph ) but much better sport performance

Because when it’s getting slower, it’s out of return window, lol.
I only use the watch for sport, so the slow UI is not an real issue for me, I only use it couple of time a week
