S9B Lock screen option (again)

@vio112 unfortunately here you will not get an answer from Suunto, but from us, member of the community. If you have inquiries directed at Suunto, better to contact them directly.

@isazi I contacted suunto via chat but I did not get answer.
Therefore is there any option how to vote for next updates? Maybe some “to do update list”? -
@vio112
I’m asking for this feature for >2 years now.
(Suunto developers, please don’t get me wrong) …my impression is, this feature is a way too simple task for them. If you see what great stuff they have implemented both in the watch and SA… that’s challenging, compared to a simple lock in watch mode.
But I must also say that the pain seems to be quite low. some people are really annoyed by the missing lock but obviously most people can live with it. and I know one guy who even moved on to another brand because of that
I don’t give up hope, I drop comments every now and then, but I think it doesn’t help to ask for it on a daily basis… like I used to do for a good amount of months
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/6000/lock-in-watch-mode/8edit: my request went even further… a lock in watch mode, BUT a toggle to activate touch in activity EVEN you activated the lock! …how crazy is that!!
-
@freeheeler I can say that this request is in my usual suggestions to Suunto, but I don’t know if it will be implemented or not. Honestly I’m not sure this will make them sell more watches, when they can spend time implementing new sport features Suunto is kind of a small company, so prioritizing is fundamental for them.

@isazi
nice to know @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos once told me he mentioned it to the team several times and was pushing it, too.I am aware that a lock function is not the biggest selling point, fully agree
but in combination to have a free touch option while buttons are locked would be great, wouldn’t it?
4 screens, 2 navigation and 1 S+ to swipe just left or right while buttons are locked during a hike or trail run sound tempting… at least to me -
@isazi I’m not so sure. Usually, users appreciate small companies for a more personal experience. Quality of life improvements like this are in my opinion a manifestation of such things.

Guys we have to push this topic every month …I am realy sad that I can not lock it because I spend lot of time in water with time mode. I am still thinking of to sell S9B and buy garmin. But I am using my SD4i novo for freediving this is the only reason why I still hope and pray for lock screen option. I do not even use my S9B as a daily watch, I use them only for sport activity …and this has to be easy quick fix for developers -
@vio112
but the screen only activates once you press a button. if you manage to go swimming without a button press there’s no issue… I know, I can’t manage either …but I see the point: you just check something on the watch and immediately take a shower: the watch goes crazy -
@freeheeler I am not sure if I understand your suggestion correctly, but I would always vote for a lock that locks completely. If the touch function is still available, it should be limited to swiping to the next screen, but the stop/start (or any change) should be disabled. Kind of, like it was implemented in Ambit 3 (and 2).

@mdzott said in S9B Lock screen option (again):

yes, you got me right
… honestly, I think that’s the only function we have in an activity with touch… unless zooming in and out on the navigation screen.
My understanding of a lock is to prevent it from unwanted action, mainly things that can not be undone, such as unwanted manual laps, pausing or ending an activity. It wouldn’t hurt if we accidentally zoom in or out or switch the screen. actually I do that very often, as the middle button is still active to switch screens!in the daily watch mode I see it useful to have a lock as my watch frequently goes to DND or to start screens and into settings (S+). of course it can be undone, but I don’t appreciate that I do not have control over the fact that my watch goes DND by itself without me noticing it. I have all notifications deactivated but calls. I would not want to miss a call because the watch went to DND all by itself.
by the way: S7 has a lock in watch mode and I used that frequently. S7 is a smartwatch for daily usage with sport function. All other S-line models are sportwatches that can be worn daily, too. maybe that’s why we lack a lock… focus is on sports?!

@freeheeler
Well actually that is not true…it also activates when you get notification…for example I was on bike, I came home I went into the shower and then I get notification about daily calories, something like “congrats you’ve done your daily target”, so my S9B has been activated and it started scrolling up and down and it also accidentally run stopwatch and it goes just crazy…and of course as I said before you can not even use stopwatch in the water so for example I can not even measure breath hold of my buddy. Therefore I would like to have option to disable the touch screen in shortcut menu like “Media controls”… this is sooo big disappointment for me and I really fighting with it -
