Hello Suunto people. In the last year updating my Suunto 9 has been pretty much a Russian roulette… and I totally blame the Suunto Link app failing or crashing mid update. Whenever that thing gets an update it is either fixed for once or totally messed up again. Mostly the latter.

Would you please consider testing your software a bit more before releasing please? It’s not that fun to have to reconfigure the watch from scratch every single time the update fails.

      Thanks.

@enricotagliavini The field testers update watches about once per week so any issues with SuuntoLink failing are typically found. I am sorry this happened to you but it is not due to a lack of testing.

could it happen due to a broken cable, or USB socket?

Sorry this happened, and yes, it absolutely stinks when it does! I experienced it on an update prior to this week’s, and I’m on edge for sure when I do updates since that experience.

Because I use SuuntoLink so infrequently (I’m not a device tester, so I don’t get to do frequent watch updates), SuuntoLink itself always tells me there’s a new version ready to install before a watch update. Instead of doing the watch update right after installing the SuuntoLink update, I update SuuntoLink and restart my laptop first … THEN I do the watch update once the laptop has rebooted. In those instances, the watch update has gone fine.

Maybe just dumb luck on my part or maybe the laptop reboot helps SuuntoLink avoid failing, but I fully understand your frustrations, so I’m happy to share this if it helps. Best wishes.

Yes. Can happen if SuuntoLink isn’t fully up to date. Maybe fussier on Windows. I have a Mac so hard to compare. I have had this happen but it was part of testing. Never on release software.

@enricotagliavini did the update with my S5 and Suuntolink on a Windows 10, Lenovo Thinkpad E15 with no problems. It took a while but worked flawless. I also updated Suuntolink first and then restarted (I am used to do this on Windows after installing or updating software for decades 😀).

@traileyes interesting, I will try your trick. I sometimes have failed updates, but my setup is very finicky (Windows running under Linux with Virtualbox on a laptop from 2014) so I usually attribute it to it. I will reboot the VM after Suuntolink updates and see if this reduces the frequency of failed updates.

I generally get the update to work first time if I use the usb 3.0 (blue) port on my laptop if i try using the std (black) port it generally fails and i have to reset the watch.
