Apologies if this has been covered before, but I cannot figure out where/how to access a Track Back facility on my new Suunto 9. A friend has an Ambit 3 and he demonstrated the brilliant Track Back feature using the breadcrumb GPS records during hiking. The Suunto 9 only has ‘Find Back’, which only points to the starting point. I want to be able to walk back to my car along the exact route I’ve used, in situations where we’re fogged in, or similar. Can anyone tell me how you enable this on my new Suunto 9? If it’s not available, surely this is a retrograde step. The watch is recording the breadcrumb trail. Why can’t I access it? TIA

@dinky224 You can follow your breadcrumb track as long as the recording is active.
Once it is finishes, you cannot use the track of it only using your watch.
In case you stopped the activity, you can sync to the app and then make a route from this activity.

Yes, this has changes from the Ambits.

I miss this option from ambits 😞
Don’t know if it’s too hard to implement this to be able to use the recorded activity as a route without the need to use the mobile phone for it, but it would be useful…

Thank you. But how do you do this? If I’m in Exercise ‘Walking’ with breadcrumb navigation turned on, what are the steps I need to take to return over the same path back to my car?. In other words, what do I press on the watch to enable this? I am very confused.

@dinky224 You have to press the middle button until you are in the breadcrumb screen, then you turn around and follow back your route.

@dinky224 The breadcrumb in the watch is useful, but I wouldn’t want to rely on it in a critical situation. You can lose it just by pressing the wrong button.

As mentioned in another reply, if you have your phone on you you can use it to convert the track data in the watch to a proper route. A mobile signal isn’t required, just the Bluetooth connection.

@david-young in iOS you need an active internet connection to make this happen.
The activity transfers to the phone just fine with only BT, but to do anything with it like save the route, you need cell or WiFi coverage…

@egika @egika Thanks for the clarification. I assumed that if the process worked on Android it would work on iPhone as well.

My Traverse manages the whole process of converting track to route internally. All the code is in the watch. To me, making the phone a part of the process is a retrograde step. But at least with Android it can be done entirely via Bluetooth.

If I were an iPhone user I would contact Suunto and ask them to have a look at this.
