SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.19.42 January 27, 2022

I wont go to internals but it is not an easily subject to describe.
Thanks a lot. Yes I can somehow imagine how things are going! I startet to think about this, because I did a relative flat run on stormy weekend with continuous falling hPa (~ 5-6hPa) and I had way more ascent / descent than usually on this track. 180 vs 100 aprox. Then I started thinkingā¦

Suunto plus - Climb
If auto stop is activated, the Suunto plus mode āClimbā does start a new hill after a stop during an uphill.
Feature or bug?
-
@pilleus
philosophical question IMHOā¦ it depends what type of users we areā¦ straight forward runner athletes might prefer a new hill once they stop e.g. for refueling waterā¦ but for hiking it would make sense to keep the āoldā hill when you take a short stop -
@freeheeler makes sense.
But as a hiker, why would you use S+ Climb? -
@egika I can answer that: to estimate vertical speed in specific difficulty regions for a better time anticipation in the future. Thatās at least what Iāve been trying to do XD
-
@dmytro
yep -
@dmytro I must admit I have never used this feature. Is there any difference to the various vertical speed data fields available in sport mode customization?
-
@egika itās not for in workout, itās for post workout.
-
@dmytro
aaah, seeā¦ thatās why I am not a member of the club you do not talk about ā¦ didnāt even notice that -
@freeheeler what do you mean XD?
-
@egika you get automatic laps. And you get a grade data field too
-
@dmytro
because I honestly donāt remember the difference of the displays in SA when you had hill climb activated or notā¦
but I find it somehow useful in the activity already. hill grade, number of climbs etcā¦ of course it would be best if we could see the avg vertical speed since the last climb. the ānowā vertical speed doesnāt tell me much to be realisticā¦ the avg for a consecutive climb has much more information. -

OK. Thank you. Automatic laps I knew, but for hiking donāt see the use case. Grade is definitely an extra - still need to learn what I would do with it on a hike.
But this is definitely a personal thing.
Thank you all for your explanations! -
@egika for example, how comfortable you are while climbing/scrambling a section of a certain steepness? I donāt care for the grade myself though.
-
@freeheeler lap avg vertical speed is available as a standard data fields (with with manual laps though - but if you are not doing hill repeats it should be possible to press that lap button ;))
-
@egika
I usually have auto laps activated for skitouring and I have one datafield for laps avg vertical speed in m/hā¦ this is somehow what I would like to see. but of course laps are every km and this never matches with flat and steep sections on the tourā¦ but gives at least an indication.
I tried manual lapsā¦ but skitouring is so much more than having the eyes on the watch. sometimes I completely ignore it and hence wouldnāt push the lap buttonā¦ and of course it would be cumbersome since I am one of the biggest lock button fans around hereedit: @Egika see, same thoughts
-
@freeheeler try the S+ hill climb. It will do the laps for you (they are not 100% precise, but better than nothing), and you can see the average speed in your custom screen.
-
@isazi
ah really? does it do the laps from S+ and hence show my pre-set avg vertical speed triggered by S+??
didnāt know thatā¦the only drawback: only one S+ at a time

@freeheeler which ones do you usually use on ski tours?
