Mid-activity reboot / No Screen timeout on S7
-
I posted this as resolved because I solved the problem after I restarted my S7. Maybe is useful for another and also to report about this.
I have the Screen timeout in 5 seconds, but my S7 suddently started to go from the active screen to the second one (B&W) instead turn off the display, keeping the second one permanently active.

@flypg Very jealous of the amount of daylight you are getting! It’s almost winter solstice here in the UK and daylight hours are very short right now - and the Suunto Solstice watchface reminds me of this every time I look at it
Also, is there a reason you have the Suunto App set to one of the complication shortcuts? Isn’t it easier and faster to press the top right button? This would open up the complication to something else…?
-
@olymay Here starting the summer Yes, I love this watchface
Reasons:
1- Looks great
2- Looks great
3- Looks great
4- Mainly I not found any useful complication for me to display there
5- And I’m a bit paranoid about press and press the buttons when I could use the touchscreen for this. Several years ago I had a bad experience with a button of a watch from other brand, and even when with Suunto never had a problem, I try to press only when needed. Yes, I’m a bit crazy… -
@flypg I have to agree, it does look great as a complication
And if you prefer using a complication instead of a button then so be it. It’s your watch and you use it however you want
I have my steps shown in the top complication, as it’s nice to know if I have moved around enough (usually the answer is a resounding NO!).
Watch battery on the right hand side. It’s a WearOS device so we simply have to have something showing the battery
And the date and day at the bottom, as it’s something I’ve had on most watches and it’s a nice familiar thing to have (and since working from home during covid times the days can blur into one, so it’s nice to be able to quickly check which day it is ).I love this watchface, but I do find that I switch every couple of weeks or so, to keep it fresh. I tend to rotate between Solstice, Heatmap, and Marine (this has the best ambient display of them all i think)

but my S7 suddently started to go from the active screen to the second one (B&W) instead turn off the display…
Finally, I detected what happened some days back. By some error of my Suunto 7, it turned on the Always On Screen. I say “error” because from menu AOS was still OFF, even it’s off until now. -
I’m was wrong about this. I thought it was my mistake, but no. It’s a S7 error. I detected that for some reason the S7 it rebooted in the middle of an activity. It’s not the first time that this happen but not happen too often (around 4 times in all 2021). Yesterday doing an activity after around 40 minutes of activity I check my S7 and on the screen I see: SUUNTO 7, my S7 it’s was rebooting . After startup the S7 it worked normal with the exception that for some reason the TILT TO WAKE it was ACTIVE (I never activate this) and the TOUCH to wake is inactive, that is my selection, also S7 show me this B&W screen if I not wake up the S7.
I believe that I lost this unfinished activity .Logs already sent to Suunto and Watch Bug Report on PM in case that be useful. @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos @pavel-samokha Please, let me know if I could help with any other before doing a full charge of my S7.
Thanks!

This sounds very much like what was happening back in September 2020 to many users. Probably a silly question, but can you check that you are on the latest version of the firmware? There was an update (January 2020??) that fixed this issue for me.
When I was suffering with this issue in 2020, to get around it whilst waiting for the fix, I would turn off the tilt to wake, turn power saver on, and AoD off and then reboot the watch without letting the screen turn off.
THEN, i would double check those settings were still in place but not adjust any of them.
I found that following a route and/or checking the map (i think) during an activity caused the watch to crash during an activity and these settings to revert.
Since the update and fix my watch has crashed once during an activity (once in 12 months) which for me is acceptable.I hope this helps.

@olymay Thank you!, yes, latest FW applied ( PXDZ.210716.001.A1 ) and all apps up to date.
Yes, for me also it’s acceptable, 5 times in 13 months, close to 2% (based on activities) it’s not too much. Now, this last, it occurs only one month after the last. On my case no routes, not other app running, nothing different than other days. I don’t know. The displays settings works perfect, only it’s changed when this error and reboot happen. One positive confirmation is that the unfinished activity was not lost, it seems that is was closed and saved before reboot
-
@flypg As you are fully up to date I’m not sure what could be causing it. Capture a bug report and send it in maybe?
Whilst you haven’t had many crashes, they are still frustrating, definitely worth looking into.
Yeah, it’s good that the activity is saved if it crashes part way through. If you sport it quickly enough then you can simply restart (after a short wait for it to reboot etc).
Although it is a shame that we can’t edit the activities after to merge them (or trim them as has been requested many times). I have found a way to merge them in the past, but it loses some data so I stopped bothering. -
@flypg @olymay I was doing an interval run with my S7 this morning and it randomly rebooted as well. I sent logs and filed a bug report with Suunto. This is the first with this firmware for me. I notified Suunto that other forum users were reporting reboots as well. I will let you know what happens.
-
@brad_olwin Thank you!
Mmm… almost all or all my reboots was during or after “Running” activity. I don’t know if this is a common factor. Yesterday I finished a running activity and started a Inline Skate activity. I never have this reboot during MTB, or other. This was my first reboot that I wrongly interpret as “freeze”.
@olymay Yes, already sent (logs and watch bug report).
-
@brad_olwin Thanks Brad
As the S7 has only basic interval function, how do you manage/record it on yours?
This is something I’d like to do more of. -
@olymay On my case I use Exercise Timer.
-
@olymay I use the lap button and use the Running Interval sport mode. I am one of those that can remember my intervals so I don’t necessarily need a pre-programmed watch to tell me what to do.
-
@brad_olwin I think I’d have to write it on the back of my hand and hope the sweat doesn’t wash it off
-
-
@flypg @olymay Suunto has discovered a bug with the S7 reboot during an exercise. I do not know what the timeline for a fix but they will investigate it.
-
@brad_olwin the power of the forum!
-
@isazi Yes and probably helps that I had the same bug and sent logs immediately.
-
@brad_olwin Today a new reboot in middle of an activity… two months passed from the last one. After restart all run well, the activity was saved but again the Gestures settings was changed: Power saver tilt is active and Touch to wake is disables (I use exactly the inverse).
Logs already sent to Suunto.
S7 start to looks more as an Garmin product…PS- I take a second look and the activity was recorded but with errors/missing infos: Ascent field is duplicate and in zero. Descente in zero, but at the same time Highest point display 2m and Lowest point -1m. The Altitude graphic show of around 30m that is not in relation with the displayed information. Various other fields are not calculated, like TSS that is not displayed
PS2- I downloaded also the Watch Bug Report in case that be useful
