Problem with Adjusting Altitude automatically on my SUUNTO 9 Baro
-
Hello, today a small post for some help.
I noticed few days ago that my watch was indicating a totally wrong altitude by more than 200 meters … I was on the terrace at my work, showing the SUUNTO to a colleague who had a Garmin and discussing about position. we were wishing to see if the GPS coordinates were the same or not … during this I noticed that my watch indicated 627 m whereas it is at Geneva and we are around 400 m. * --BTW … not straight forward to get fast both position and altitude … but this is another subject for another post --*
I asked the watch to adjust automatically the altitude … it told me “OK” you will be informed later … but … after some time and in repeated manner I see and error message telling me that the GPS signal was not found and the altitude correction failed.
Few remarks here :
-
I run this test yesterday there was only 17% battery left, but I charged during the night my watch, also did a synchronization of it with my mobile and then re-engaged the same test this morning => same result
-
Of course I do see test being located outside, moreover I look to my current position to see if I can get it from GPS and I can see it perfectly, so the watch is able to get my postion from GPS …
-
I was using this altitude adjustment multiple time in the past at my home, just to see how it works and also just because the altitude is changing depending of the weather so to challenge the watch if it was effectuvelly able to retreive correctly the altitude of my house in any weather conditions => it was working very well in past
-
last but not least I installed recently the last 2.18.20 version before I was in 2.16 … It has may be nothing to do with that but just to indicate that when it was working I was with a 2.16 software release on the watch.
Any help is welcome !!!
PS : I’m at the 4th trial
PS 2 : my photo is showing the message I have … here I took it at my work … but I get the same when I’m outside … .

Most probably worse gps at the office and / or you haven’t used gps recently to cache your position.
The procedure takes 15 minutes max and it happens in the background.

Hello Dimitrios
No no … the photo is misleading because I shoot it when I was back to office but in fact I did it now 3 times since yesterday and 3 times I was on the parking of my sport place.
Also the 2 last time I checking my position because I was effectivelly suspecting when I read the message that my watch was no more able to find GPS signal hence may be why the issue … I was using the menu navigation : votre emplacement (in french) and got it even quite fast, so the watch is able to locate me, but not able to correctly get GPS signal when it consists into adjusting altitude
What I will do : I will do some trials over the week-end from my garden and then let you know.
I read somewhere that you can synchronize the watch so that it get more accurate coordinates of the satellite. I did this with my phone but was I correct ? or it is something that should be done by connecting the watch to the computer and go to suunto link ?

@mister-pyc just sync with the phone. To check the status go on the watch
Settings general about and look for agps and their date. It should be the latest.

Hello first of all thanks a lot for the help.
This sunday I restarted completely from scratch at home, in the middle of my garden and tried to adjust the altitude.
Conclusion- IT PEFECTLY WORKED !!! … what I noticed … it took quite an important amount of time (may be 10 to 15 minutes) … most surely what happened the previous times was that I was not staying quiet at the same place, it’s true that I started it on a parking but then after 5 minutes was taking my car, so moving
SO … THERE IS NO PROBLEMS … the watch is perfectly able to realign the altitude
- However I noticed somethign strange which I will detail in an other post I will write now …
the pressure is changing when the altitude displayed on the watch is changing … this is for me erroneous and I will explain me on it.
Again, thanks to Suunto folks, especially Dimitrios here.
This close the post here. -
See here for the other post I wrote on altitude alignment and what I considere as a error of also readjusting the pressure curve.
