Software update 2.18.18 Sept 28 2021
-
Hi all,
i have got a question:
I updatet my S9 yesterday to 2.18.18 and after syncing watch and phone/app, the suunto app tells me that there is an update for my watch. The provided link is
https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Support/Software-Updates/Versionshinweise/suunto-9-software-updates/
stating that 2.18.20 is available (since 28th of September, see screenshot form website above). I am a bit confused …? -
@matthiasklug yes you should be able to update to .20, it is a hotfix release for a bug in one of the watchfaces for the S9 only.
-
do I recall correctly: assuming I am a bit paranoid and think that the latest update drains my watches battery more than normal… the trick is to use the entire battery, charge completely and than do a restart?
-
In the tests I did after the last update today, I saw that the screen switching responses slowed down and got stuck. There is also an increase in battery consumption. Has anyone encountered these problems?
-
@isazi this is the first time ever I delay updating watch as long as possible. I really like that bug and I call it a feature. It is very convenient to lite up the watch just by tapping the screen. Much more than Rise to wake, which I disabled immediately.
Well, I know, different people, different taste… -

…looks like I’m not the only paranoid here

@zadow
…hang on… once upon a time double tapping to switch on the light was an official feature, no?
edit: but it was superseded with raise to light?!
…never used it, but that’s what I remember if my mind doesn’t trick me -
@freeheeler I always thought that letting the battery fully drain until the watch switches off and then recharge it to 100% (and some more minutes after that) should be suffice.
I’ll pay some more attention to the battery drain of my S9P, but until now I didn’t noticed anything unusual.
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos true! I didn’t think about making that change recently.
-
@stefan-kersting WTH!!! I cannot even have the glass of water…
-
@freeheeler You are not Since the last update I saw that battery is draining.On if the reason(at least in my case) could be raise to wake feature which turns on on wrist movement without my intention to look at watch
-
@egika Thanks!!!

Hi all. We have discussed this quite a couple of times and after each update the same question rises: battery life.
Due to the update procedure that wipes the battery calibration , you might think that battery lasts less in daily mode.
Just let the watch drain the battery and charge it full.
-
Just updated S9 to 2.18.20. Unfortunately the update process reported errors and eventually reset the watch to factory defaults so I had to set it up from scratch. Is this expected? It did not happen with any of the previous updates.
-
@skydancer no it is not expected and should not happen.
-
@isazi Some users from Polish Suunto community reported this. I sent the logs to Suunto using the app, maybe they will be somehow useful to you.
-
@skydancer please send logs via suuntolink and give me the I’d. Also ask the other users.
-
@skydancer it happened to me as well. After 2nd unsuccessful Reset, I detached the watch and restarted it by pressing the upper button for 12s. Finally watch restarted with the latest software version 2.18.20.
However, watch unexpectedly switches on HR lights (without blinking, screen in watch mode). It happened to me 2 times already today. I solved it by moving to HR measurement and back -
@skydancer I had the same reset experience with my S9B for 2.18.18 as did another user, lost all my custom sports, fortunately it installed the hotfix 20.18.20 without restarting.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos
maybe the battery “cache” wipe can not be avoided… but sometimes this drain until completely empty needs to be planned…
