Suunto 9 battery life issues - again
-
I bought my first Suunto 9 Baro in January 2020. It worked perfectly until November 2020, when the battery life dropped to less than 12 hours. It was replaced under warranty.
The same problem is now back with the replacement unit. Battery life used to be several days and it suddenly changed to be less than 12 hours. This is without any training, just wearing it normally. In both instances, I had not changed any settings, or made any changes to the phone the unit is paired with. I’ve tried the following:
- Switching off notifications
- Switching of heart rate monitor and sleep monitoring
- Soft reset
- Factory reset
- Full discharge followed by a full charge
There are very few results when searching the internet. I’ve tried all the advice I could find. How is it possible that I’ve encountered this problem twice after 9-10 months of usage, but no-one else seems to?

@pierre-andre-van-leeuwen I owned a S9 Baro for 2,5 years but don’t recognise this issue.
If even a factory reset doesn’t resolve the issue, I can think of 2 scenario’s:
The connection to an external device causes the drain. Could you disconnect and remove the pairing to your phone and see if that resolves the issue?
or…
you are very unlucky to receive 2 units with a defective battery.

@pierre-andre-van-leeuwen
And in addition to @surfboomerang advice, according to result, you may also check bluetooth discovery setting (on the watch) (put it to off could help). -
@surfboomerang I did another factory reset this morning and skipped the step where you connect it to your phone. I also put it in airplane mode. Battery drop was 25% in 3 hours, so no improvement.

@pierre-andre-van-leeuwen this is too much. Send it for replacement

There must be an iffy batch out there. Before the S9B I own now (have had it for just over a year) I had three in a row with battery issues. My training partner also had two with battery issues, however he ended up jumping across to Garmin whereas I stuck with Suunto
I was lucky enough to get a straight exchange for a new one from Suunto each time and I would hope that you could too
