      Goodmorning everyone.

I have been using suunto 9 since december especially for activities such as running, mountain biking, ski touring and mountaineering.

The reading of the total height difference is always lower than all the other gps systems used by me and my friends.

The question is: is the suunto 9 particularly accurate or my watch constantly underestimate the elevation gain?

      Thanks for your help.

@coppe83 regular s9, non baro, I presume. As baro sensor is absent, watch is fiercely filtering noise with 14m threshold which leads to the behaviour you’ve described. You can find more detailed discussion in the forum. Your values are “normal”. A workaround would be to import your activities to an other service like strava, use it to correct elevation and reimport to SA.

@дима-мельниченко Meanwhile, thanks for the reply.

I didn’t think that not having the barometer the difference could be so important.

Can you explain me how to use strava to correct the value and import it? What does it mean SA?

@coppe83 tbh if I knew baro makes such difference, I’d probably went for it myself.

Alright, what you can do is go to suunto app (=: SA), there to settings -> partner services -> Strava and connect both apps. Other apps can correct altitude as well, but I’m not sure which exactly are those.
Now, you go to Strava, where your activities will be automatically synced (only the new ones though) and you can open an activity of interest. Strava normally asks if you want to correct altitude, but you can do this manually from the settings menu of a specific activity. Altitude info will be drawn from the map profile.

After this is done you can download your activity fit file from Strava and re-upload it to SA. To do this you can use another app such as quantified self (often referred to as QS in the forum).

I personally don’t bother with altitude corrections, so suggested method may not be the quickest, but I’m sure other will correct me in such case.

@дима-мельниченко grazie per la conferma di quello che ho notato e per quello che si può fare per bypassare il problema.
              ora ci provo!
