Dual Time listing UTC +/- instead of Geographical location
-
After the last update, the dual time is listing UTC +/-, instead geographical location like Mountain, Europe etc.
Was this intentionally? -
@adosun yes.
-
@isazi it would have been easier with the geographic location.
Now you have to remember the dailight savings… For PST -7 or -8… depending on DS… -
@adosun that is also correct but with a little google search it can be done easily. .
This change might prevent future issues such as daylight saving being obsolete (see brazil)
-
@adosun not to mention that you must also be aware of the daylight saving time.
-
@milan-šádek DS should be automatically calculated. You set the dual time to the desired region and DS should be adjusted automatically.
Now on DS I have to manually adjust, do google search… Not user friendly… -
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos I thought you are the business of making watches that shows/calculates time, not making user figure out times…
-
@adosun while with this change the dual time might be a bit more difficult/no DS and we are aware of this, the first time settings the time + timezone is much easier. There is only one time it fits you and you just pick it up instead of scrolling etc. Oh and typically you dont have todo that as the mobile app (on first use wizard) has taken care of that.
So sure we are in this business and we did something simpler for the current time but not for the second time (dual time) and I hope that will be improved.
Just to be clear : You dont need to adjust DS for your current time

yes and that is the point - you are normally aware of the daylight saving handling in you region. Having installed he fw update, the funny times start the moment you need to travel abroad and google the data for another region - time zone + DST data. So setting local time via app or watch gps is perfectly ok, but I believe that the dual time should be based on a specific country/state or town as i is a lot more intuitive and also user friendlier.
-
@milan-šádek you google the data for this use case I suppose
- Your time is fine
- You travel to africa and you need to add a dual time to track time at home ?
right ?
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Yep, something like that.
Or if you simply want to know the time at some other location and don’t want to be constantly googling their UTC offsets and daylight time status.
Not to mention a name of a city looks way friendlier and is a faster to decipher at a glance than UTC+2:00… Did I mean Paris? Rome? Moscow? It sure doesn’t look like Seoul or Vladivostok. Ah, forget it! Let me pull my phone.
-
@nickk yeah that is a valid case. However keep in mind that those table started to change (yes some towns in borderlines had changes).
This issue (WITH the dual time) is known by PO though before this feedback was added
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos I understand. Some countries drop daylight savings time, others adjust time zones – all of this is happening constantly.
There will always be somebody who’d be unhappy because either their native Shiitake Hole, Middle of Nowhere Kingdom isn’t on the list, or time zone isn’t quite right. Perhaps, the menu can support dual approach? By geography and UTC offset?

that would be the best.
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos I usually use the other time to have an idea if it is appropriate to call a business partner from the galaxy far, far away…
-
@nickk that might be the approach we do later leveraging the mobile apps at least
-
Kind of shocked and felt weirdly upset when seen this on my watch as well, got me to calculate and search where that time zone is now in there… Wouldn’t be possible and easier something like Auto time update for dual time too as long as is synced with the city or country?
Assuming there is linked data storage and updated for regions and country’s time zones regularly. -
I suggest that “:00” is dropped on the watch face from those timezones, that don’t have 15/30/45 minute offset. So “UTC+02” instead of “UTC+02:00”. Most timezones have 0 minute offset.
ISO 8601 standard allow also this representation without minute offset. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601#Time_offsets_from_UTC
“:00” is just redundant information wasting space on the watch face.
(I have S5 but same issue.)
