Software update 2.16.26 June 10th 2021

@nickk if you have run this before, you could use the existing training as a route template.
Personal comment: I don’t like running in loops, it’s boring…
-
@tomas5 I tested it now and no.
Only via the shortcut toggle
-
@egika I suppose depends on where you live. Most parks and forested areas within 30-40 minute drive around me offer about 4-5 miles routes. You can stretch it to 8-10 by taking every turn on every trail or pass, but if you need 15-22 mile run you will have to revisit places.
I’ll need 45 min+ drive to the closest state park where the route lengths are indeed unlimited, but terrain there is technical. Maybe @Brad_Olwin would enjoy. I’m still growing into trails.
It’s either that, or running dusty, dirty, and smelly streets where every fifth car is driven by a maniac checking his phone and blowing past Stop signs. I’ll take a picturesque lake loop over this every time.

@nickk @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I tried to test this using an extremely small loop 3 times now. Only one loop was in the route.
1st loop: Snap to route worked perfectly.
2nd loop: No movement was recorded, watch thinks I was standing still (anyway, the loop was extremely small (172 m), I haven’t even moved more than 100 metres from the starting point at any moment, so this might have influenced it).
Now I quickly switched to Find Back and then to Snap to route again and:
3rd loop: after triggering the Snap to route again it worked great.So, probably one loop in the route works fine if it doesn’t bother you to switch to “Find Back” or “Breadcrumb” and back to “Snap to route” at the end of the loop
EDIT: I made another test on larger loop. Additionally I found this:
- If you continue after the first loop without taking any actions, you will “only” loose 100 m of data… First, the watch thinks you’re not moving, then after 100 m it notifies you that you’re not on the route and then immediately follows the notification that you’re back on route and snap to route starts working again.
- You don’t have to take any middle step (like find back or breadcrumb) while you trigger the new loop. Simply directly select Snap to route and choose the route.
-
@inkognito Human ingenuity at its best. It’s not even a day since the feature was released, and it’s already been hacked for us boring loopers Kudos!

About S5/S3
We found an issue when updating from very old versions and we are making sure there wont be any update failures.
Suunto 5 will be getting the “same” S9 features meaning Ghost Runner, Snap to route, raise to wake etcGesture backlight, you BEAUTY
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I assume that Suunto+ activation during activity is not included. As it has been widely discussed here, I just wanted to know if it is still being considered as an evolution for S9B that simply did not arrive on time or it is something simply being evaluated internally. It would be a great addition, but of course not a necessity. I am asking just for curiosity of its current status.
Of course, NDA applies
Ghost runner looks terrific and a magnificent source of injuries, hahaha.

@efejota actually I wonder how mid activity s+ will be useful. Alright, some s+ features would makes sense, but others wouldn’t. For example Strava and TP metrics. What’s worth of half- activity tss?
Maybe it could be done so that only meaningful features can be selected after the start. -
@efejota we are improving this part. But not ready yet
-
@дима-мельниченко
eg climb app is useful… it will not be complete in the summary, but if I want to see the climb angle during the activity -
@efejota
I think the 1 star feature did not make it to this release either -
@freeheeler yup, I see how climb, loop, safety may all be useful if one could start/change them during an activity.
-
“Raise to wake backlight”
doesnt work"The Raise to wake feature activates standby backlight in regular time mode and activates backlight in exercise mode when your wrist is lifted to watch reading position. The three Raise to wake options are:
*****On: Raising** your wrist in regular time mode or during an exercise will activate backlight.***

- Backlight intensity settings changed to only “Low, Medium, High”… I prefer the previous solution “0 - 100 % in 5 % steps”
Yap
-
@safari the raise to wake activates the standby light. It works for me, but you need to have the standby set to on.
-
@safari Basically it goes as follows:
- Raise to Wake OFF, Standby OFF: Nothing, use buttons to trigger backlight
- Raise to Wake OFF, Standby ON: Constant, low-level standby backlight, previous behavior
- Raise to Wake ON, Standby OFF: Nothing, use buttons to trigger backlight
- Raise to Wake ON, Standby ON: Low-level standby backlight comes on gesture
In addition notice a new Backlight setting in Quick Settings menu: this appears to turn on backlight indefinitely
Also, DND mode will now disable Raise to Wake, me thinks, and dim backlight including backlight turned on via Backlight setting.

@mountaineerx
Yes
it’s a trick
it’s done thanks
this way i will test the charging effect.
We were waiting for an update where the backlight can be adjusted according to the sunrise and sunset, but it did not come.
maybe it was my thought -
@nickk
thanks -
@freeheeler it must be locked somewhere in the process
-
Raise to wake gives us almost 3 seconds of backlight ? EDIT, nm
