Bike activity continue to record during pause
-
I recorded this activity with suunto 9 baro connected to a suunto bike dual sensor and polar h10 HR.
When arriving at the loop at 21’39 /6.94 km I paused the activity and started to record the structured workout with another bike device also connected to the sensors .https://www.suunto.com/move/chrisc92/60ba6a7664d2676d84b7eb73
During all the workout the watch was on the pause screen.
Then after the workout I pressed resume to record the comeback from the circuit .
I was very surprised that all my activity , including GPS cadence speed and HR where also recorded on the suunto during the pause (the workout on the circuit)
So what is the purpose of the pause button during a bike activity ?
-
@chrisc92 that is the normal behavior of the S9, a pause is a break, GPS position is not updated, but HR and I guess other sensors are. Also the altimeter works, GPS also works to calibrate it. It is supposed to be used when you take a break, not when you don’t want to record something. End the activity if you don’t want it to record.

@isazi thanks My GPS position was tracked on the map (see the circuit between 6.94 and 41.2 km) I am not convinced recording activity during pause is a normal behavior in general sport watches, but ok i will assume it and create several activities for my workouts.
-
@chrisc92 No, recording GPS like normal when the activity is paused definitely is not normal.
The record looks like there was no pause active on the watch at all and it just continued recording. -
@chrisc92 you are right, the GPS track should not be there, but your watch will keep recording it and record sensor values, and then draw a straight line between the last point before the break and the first after.
-
So one thing you can check to see if the fault is in the watch or something else, is to check in the watch logbook if the details of the activity are the same you see on the app.
Although I have never had the watch recording GPS during a break, and I have never seen this reported in the forum.

@isazi the logbook of the watch show the full distance, cadence, heart rate. I will take a photo of pause screens next time. Maybe this is a bug caused by the sensors sending speed and cadence informations to the watch.
Also the Suunto sensor is “shared” by the watch and another device. -
@chrisc92 most important, if you can reproduce this send the logs from the watch, so the Suunto programmers can see where the bug is and fix it.
