Multisport mode
-
@TELE-HO I thought you could dismiss this message with the middle button?!
What can’t be dismissed is the lap count in alpine skiing. So there definitely is the waiting time before stopping…
Already complained about it a year ago… -
@Egika I little bit disagree with you too
When you use triathlon mode in S9 it is very easy to change sport. After swimming you need only one long press upper button for change to transition. This I can make when I running from water and my watch are under swimsuit, I don’t need looking to screen. When you leaving transition area, you need only one short press upper button to change to bike mode. The same between bike and run.
It is very good, simply and comfortable changing activity. That’s why I wrote here about it. I am disappointed that I can’t use this, while screens in triathlon mode are not suitable to me, I can not customize it.
And my opinion S9 baro is top sport model, not only cheap fitness band. And there are this details important.
You are true it is possible change sport mode manually. But searching right mode is not so quickly and comfortable as switching in triathlon mode. That’s all.
-
@Egika
…the middle button doesn’t do anything when buttons are locked -
actually, after using a lot of other brand watch, i find suunto 9 multisport feature is the one i like the most. You see, with some other brand , i have to decide from first if i want to do multisport, or in some other, i need to customize first. With suunto 9, i can just decide, oh i want to do another training and switch the single training to multi-training without as much as many blinks.
-
@mcindr and doing a swimrun or a duathlon is exactly the same.
- Long button press
- short button press for the next mode
No need to look at the display. Always the last used sport mode will come up.
That is what I mean with preparation. Just select the sport modes one time in a test activity. And they will show up right away when changing. You should really try it!
-
@Egika I tried it. You can prepare it. But you start swimming. Change to transition. After transition you want change to bike, but in first position is again swimming, while it is at this moment last activated sport. After bike you change again to transition and then you want change to run. But you have in menu first bike (last sport before transition) than swimming and running is 3th position. Not so easy as you wrote.
And I didn’t say actually multisport is bad. I agree with you. It is good this possibility change sports when you want. But with customization triathlon or possibilities predefined more multisport it will be better. And if you will not use it, nothing change for you.
In Ambit2 was both possibility. You could change sport manually, as in case S9 or you could predefined owen multisport mode (triathlon, duathlon, swimmrun,… what you want). Becose of this I don’t understand why it missing by newer models.
-
If we are talking about duathlon or swim run a special mode would make more sense , than abusing multisport.
-
@mcindr we are mixing triathlong an duathlon here.
Please read my other comment above.
@Bulkan was mentioning all three in one sentence and I replied to this.for duathlon and swimrun it is as simple as described.
for triathlon, there is the triathlon mode - so no need to use the multisport feature (and I wrote before, that I agree a customization of the screens for triathlon is missing)
should be all said now…
-
Hello good multisport people out there. I read the discussion and I see that in some way, I have to agree/disagree to certain point with every opinion here…
I use multisport a lot because of my triathlon trainings and it really took me some time to find my best practice, how to switch between sports…
Well, I do not want to discuss apparent things, which you all already mentioned here.
There is one thing which came to my mind lately, which could be a feature suggestion, maybe.I was thinking about, let’s call it - “Activity Profiles”
Activity profile would contain list of activities.
Example: I create an Activity profile called “Trainning”. this profile contains all my sportmodes, which I use for training, like, running, cycling, swimming, strength training, flexibility traigning, etc…" Second profile would be “Triathlon race”. Into this profile I put OW swimming, running, cycling (and maybe some customized activity, which I could use for transitions). Third Activity Profile could be “Swimrun race” where I put OW swimming and running only. Fourht profile - “Outdoors” with hiking, skiing, mountaneering. And so on. There also could be “Default” activity profile with all activities.
Well, what would be the benefit of such profiles? I could activate one profile at the time on the watch and only the list of activities related to that profile will show on my watch. Change sport in Multisport would be much more easier (you do not have to scroll to right activity over all others which you do not need right now).Well, I am not sure whether you got the idea. Maybe it’s total bullshit. I am not sure. It is something what came to my mind, when I was thinking how to make the multisport switch easier.
Sorry for never ending post and thanks if you made it down here
Have a nice day all and stay healthy!

to All:
the main problem and difference between the “multisport” mode and the “triathlon” mode is the inability to switch with one click. I’m talking about winter triathlon (which cannot be created from triathlon mode) and winter duathlon (cycling and running). you have to look at the watch, press the button, select the mode by pressing, press again … try switching modes when you hold the skis in one hand, sticks in the other, and then switch the mode by tightening the lanyards of the sticks … this is very inconvenient.
just add the ability to edit the mode - triathlon.
Yes! in. SuuntoApp and SportTracker cannot view all sports that were in multisport mode, there is only general data … in Movescount it was possible to watch it …
-
@DRezvoff you can in suunto app iOS and very soon on Android as well

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Damn it. Android is much faster than iOS development. We had one thing to presume…
-
@DRezvoff again - yes and no.
- In triathlon mode it is not one click. It is a long button press into transition and a short one to the next sport.
- For duathlon it is exactly the same. Long button press - the previous sport mode will be already selected - and short press to start it. No need to look. Same like triathlon mode.
And since there is no transition in swimrun, actually better suited.
Only for winter triathlon it is as you say. You need to look at the watch to select the correct next mode.
So yes: triathlon sports mode configuration needs to be implemented in the app -
@Egika And how you will make transition? This what you wrote means, that you will have transition time in activity.
-
@Egika Transition is 4th discipline of triathlon and similarly sports (duathlon, winter triathlon,…). You can lost a lot of time if you make it slowly
-
today I took part in winter triathlon competitions: 3-5-5, running - bike - skiing. I have created a mode - “transit zone”, try switching modes when you are running with a bike on loose snow, and then with skis. you need to look under your feet, and not look for the desired mode. at the same time rivals whose Garmin watches do not experience such problems. it is unpleasant. and in the SuuntoApp then there is no division by type, I can only look at the watch. only two views were exported to the Strava app - skis and bicycles, running and transit zones were not exported: ((((
competitions in SuuntoApp - https://www.suunto.com/move/drezvoff/5ffa8c08267fff271b2421a1
Strava profile - https://www.strava.com/athletes/62478208
as a result, after a couple of hours Strava downloaded the remaining parts, but there they are also inconvenient to watch broken: ((((

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I’m really looking forward to! in a month I will participate in the stage of the Russian Cup in zmny triathlon! I really don’t want to lose precious seconds in the transit zone

I assume the organizer is responsible for your timekeeping, isn’t it?
what if you just record one activity called thriathlon and you don’t even touch your watch once and only at home you use the tool you like to split up your activity? -
@TELE-HO It is not so comfortable solution whitch I expect from sport watch in category S9 baro. But technically what about different pods for different sport? Power pod for bike, foot pod for running… I would like to see my speed during cycling, peace during running…
