TRACK mode on SUUNTO 9
-
Hello,
I´ve just read, that Garmin has a new feature on their Forerunner 745, which is best for running on the track. It measures the lap for the first two rounds and then it´s able to measure the distance precisely. I mean, it can recognize that, the track is 400m long and it counts the laps, so you have very precise distance data.
Saying this, I would like to ask, if Suunto already has something like this, or if anybody knows, if there´s any chance, they will include it in some update?

The Suunto 9 does not have the track mode that sticks the GPS track on the, well, track.

I did however use the automatic loop feature on the track with decent results.

I agree. The loop is an OK feature. But when you run on a track, it’s typical to do specific intervals (10200 with 200 rest, 8400 w 200 rest). In the loop feature, the track is still overshooted in terms of distance (inner lap is always counted as 410m), making the combi with intervals not useful.
And who really runs with in cirkels when running in nature…Of course, still having a lap feature is better then nothing But on the track, manual laps are at moment more useful.
I am sure the watch will still bring interesting new features! -

@egika From an individual training point-of-view, 400 vs 410m is no issue. However, if you train in group, it’s rather nice that your watch registers the track length correctly. It’s not your watch who’ll determine how much you’ll need to run, but the track itself… But then the suunto does measure the intervals correctly.
I understand the frustrations of the people who train on track. I sometimes have them myself as well, but luckily I also have some nice trails in the neighbourhood.
