Notifications with emoji - Suunto 9
-
Hey, someone know why Suunto 9 notifications from the phone don’t show emoticons?
Is this a planned feature or is it a technical problem? Thanks!

@mattd disable notifications or you’ll know Zombie notifications if you are on android.
And emoji don’t work… -
@g287-sf Do you know if the problem is only for Android notifications?
-
@mattd I do not think the watch is capable of showing emoticons. The Suunto 7 can do this but not the S-series AFAIK.

@mattd emoticons don’t display on the watch (S9B) when paired with iOS either; whereas zombie notifications are an issue (for me it is calendar invites that only vanish when I restart the watch). The latter has certainly been discussed on a different thread.

I have been thinking about this a long time ago. Nowadays, especially younger people use emoji almost constantly… And it doesn’t give a good impression that the watch cannot show them… It doesn’t have to be colourfull ones or anything fancy… Few years ago, I had Pebble smartwatch with monochromatic screen and it supported the set of very basic emoji (like 30 most used ones). https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/pebble.jpg
Couldn’t this be somehow easily implemented to the language/character pack? I know that S9 is not a smartwatch, but this really is something that people notice immediately.Edit: Sorry for not replying directly to the original post, my fault…

@inkognito it should be possibile to have emoji, after every workout you have the feeling with the emoji from very happy to worried. So why we can’t in notifications

Feeling may be a Suunto image shown o’ purpose for this screen.
Display screen capability should be the issue, but the smiley/emoji coding to he translated into image during notification. -
@mff73 maybe they can minimum turn them in to classic old school smiley like this -_-’

I’ve no idea if the S9 supports unicode, if it doesn’t they would have to change that to allow for emojis. And I am not sure if this is something that will happen for a device that is almost three years old (and although three years may seem little to us, it’s a lot in technology terms).

If I recall well a firmware upgrade was needed for the watch to be able to show notifications in Greek, so I guess is not so easy. Anyway I prefer Suunto to spend resources in sport/navigation/outdoor features rather than smart watch features.
