So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?
-
@MartinLX Same story for me…
I switched from Movescount to Suunto app when I changed my Ambit 3 Peak for a Suunto 9 Baro. Also I needed to adapt a bit, but I never had the feeling that my device was dumbed down because of the transition. It just needed a little flexibility from my side.
Did I miss Movescount as analisys tool?
Yes, but I found Runalyze which covers all my needs.Did I miss Movescount as configuration tool?
Not at all. Suunto App is more then capable of configuring my watch. Even in the field.Did I miss Movescount as Route tool?
Yes, definitly. Suunto App lacked routing possibilities at first, but was slowly catching up. The biggest leap was the possibility to import GPX files. Once that was implemented, my needs were fulfilled. I could plan routes in 3rd party apps and import them. The fact that Suunto App is slowly developing the route creation feature is great, but in the mean time it didn’t make my watch useless as some of you describe. -

I Don’t care about the other ranges, I only care about the Ambits/Traverse’s… I am pleased you are happy… BUT many of Us AMBIT/Traverse users are not.

@regger I never used MC, so I don’t know how tags are implemented there, but Runalyze does support tags.
And therein lies the nub of the problem; you’re telling people to shut up and stop complaining when you’ve never used the products we’re having an issue with as you bought into the brand after all of this was closed off to new customers.
Quantified self is actually pretty good, and credit to @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos for developing it, but it doesn’t help with the ability to resolve the apps for Ambit users, the POIs etc, it’s purely an analysis tool.

I either live with the consequences or leave the brand.
Sadly, I can neither afford to drop several hundred pounds for a replacement watch nor do I want to contribute to the throw away culture that is so pervasive these days. I’d rather work with the company to ensure their products have as long a useful life as possible.
I’m the same as you on the dislike of living in a throwaway culture. I can understand that if what they were doing is shutting off access to Movescount because the last time they sold a product which used it was ten years ago and there were only three users left, but it’s clear people want to continue using their watches, some of which were purchased only a couple of years ago. I certainly didn’t buy my Spartan with the expectation that in less than three years it would be junk, but sadly this will be the case once Movescount is turned off and I lose POIs as of tomorrow.
Wouldn’t have written better. Not taking any personal attacks. I feel totally the same. But it guess the experience for ambit/traverse users are totally different from the ones who have a s9.
Regarding the comments on this forum to switch brand, I guess we are allowed to be pissed off when forked 500eur for a watch that some days ago did everything that was announced by the sales time and no it doesn’t. It is not the apple story: apple didn’t implement new features or slowed down (I have original se and for me it is still snappy ).
Of course we can switch brands or buy a s9b cheap, but that means spending extra money for something we don’t need , that for must of us won’t bring any advantage , and that maybe we don’t like (I thinking of going to Garmin, due to their capabilities and not be 100% reliable on app to change settings , but I hate the looks). -
I will miss tags! RIP ~450 tags.

Hooray for you! Others don’t have the same luxury. I don’t have a mobile phone or tablet that will support the Suunto App, so in essence I have a very expensive wrist weight. The loss of movescount eliminates my ability to access my data. It’s hard to discuss how one will use it when now I can’t. You’re so blessed to have all the answers…

My Ambit will not leave me ;-).
I will use Rubitrack to upload my data on my Mac to sync it with Strava.
On my old IPad Movescount is still working. When this app is offline it still allows me to „share“ sessions manually to Strava…not very comfortable but it works.
My IPhone XS still doesn’t recognize Ambit as a Bluetooth device!!! No way!
It is s shame how Suunto ignores Ambit user having problems with new IPhones (11, SE, XS). Support is too bad for me to get me motivated to buy a new S9Baro. We will see what Christmas brings…

Ambit1. ambit2, ambit3peak, spartan baro, s9b-titanium user here.Suunto user for 10 years. I like suunto android app, but I am missing WEB platform. Expecially bug with altitude at route creation makes me to move to another brand. I have cycling comp from garmin and next year I will buy watch also. From my view lacking of WEB platform is a mistake for suunto. Who knows. 31.12.2020 under line revenues for 2020 will tell if the decision was correct. If web is back (route creation and route sync and basic reports without sync to billion other apps), maybe-only maybe I will be back also :).

@Brad_Olwin the same here ant the tag analysis function in SA is not as good as in MC

@regger - using the phone app: in the description of each activity you can add details, which you can then search on when in the summary view. For example I tend to add the EPOC details, battery usage (wear os thing), and some other bits and pieces, whether I was connected to phone, GPS mode, Fused tracking or best etc. Which quickly enables me to see all activities with that detail.

@Prenj careful on the assumption regarding Garmin device dependency on their app or web service. Their entire ecosystem (including watches) went down w that ransomware attack a few months back.

But most of the watch settings could have been changed on the watch itself and you could still download your activities to computer and upload them wherever you like.

In that time I bought an edge 530 and had zero issues setting it up and using all features that I needed. Configuration was done on the device. Files were also possible to upload somewhere and even updates could be done with the update file.

Show me a web service that this could not happen too… That is just the sign of the times and is something that you expect too happen… Shutting down a perfectly good service and making people use something not suitable is not what you expect… I would have liked to see IMPROVEMENTS…But hey what do we know …

Oh, come on, even big and rich companies shutdown services all the time https://killedbygoogle.com/

Got any really relevant example like from any other sport watch manufacturer that significantly degraded the service or removed many important features of watches they were selling at the time? I’m struggling to find any beside Suunto.
