Saw this today on the Suunto web site on the next migration dates. I cannot see since when this is online, so sorry in advance for maybe posting what everyone already knew. There is a -30% loyalty offer for Spartan, Ambit and Traverse owners that I hope at least for some might be a possible path. Offer is valid from 01 October 2020 to 31 March 2021.

@regger - using the phone app: in the description of each activity you can add details, which you can then search on when in the summary view. For example I tend to add the EPOC details, battery usage (wear os thing), and some other bits and pieces, whether I was connected to phone, GPS mode, Fused tracking or best etc. Which quickly enables me to see all activities with that detail.

@Prenj careful on the assumption regarding Garmin device dependency on their app or web service. Their entire ecosystem (including watches) went down w that ransomware attack a few months back.

But most of the watch settings could have been changed on the watch itself and you could still download your activities to computer and upload them wherever you like.

In that time I bought an edge 530 and had zero issues setting it up and using all features that I needed. Configuration was done on the device. Files were also possible to upload somewhere and even updates could be done with the update file.

Show me a web service that this could not happen too… That is just the sign of the times and is something that you expect too happen… Shutting down a perfectly good service and making people use something not suitable is not what you expect… I would have liked to see IMPROVEMENTS…But hey what do we know …

Oh, come on, even big and rich companies shutdown services all the time https://killedbygoogle.com/

Got any really relevant example like from any other sport watch manufacturer that significantly degraded the service or removed many important features of watches they were selling at the time? I’m struggling to find any beside Suunto.

Same here… Even garmin don’t downgrade older device’s(friends still uses a forerunner 10 and a forerunner 620 which is FULLY functional) They simply incorporate them in to near platforms…
Suunto have set the bar as to how low they can go…

@Prenj https://www.polar.com/en/pptclosed Just dropped support for RC/RCX

How long had those devices NOT been on sale and how long had the service continued after the last sale of them??? Suspect was not like suunto has done… You know, selling the watches with lots of features even when they have closed the service that supports them.Which then kills alot of features etc
-
@lohtse these devices were actually released later than Ambit1 which is supported by Suunto App.

BEARLY supported by the app… where as the Movescount system FULLY Supported them…And the difference The Ambit 2 built on the ambit 1 as did the Ambit 3(which is still being sold) build on the Ambit 2. And the platform was built to support them(and others) A platform that I still don’t see why it has to end!!!

This was their previous web platform, no? And they have a new one? And they stopped selling those product how many years (decades?) ago? No, Suunto is still in the league of their own in this.
