Software update 2.12.30 Staged Release for S3/S5/S9
-
I did some testing of the new S+ features and they work really well. I’m impressed with lap precision and climb data. I hate running in circles so I won’t use laps feature but climb is really nice - NGP and grade are very informative. I only wish it was better linked with SA - I’d like to just tap a lap (climb) and see its details on the map.
It took me some time getting used to the new watch face but I think it’s interesting, although it takes some time for it to refresh, especially when picking up the watch in the morning. It’s not the most readable watch face out there but it’s well designed nonetheless.
I wish the “safe” functionality was implemented differently and be accessible from workout options when it’s needed. I don’t think it’s necessary for it to occupy a separate screen during the workout. There’s no need to cycle through it when wanting to reach different data screens or navigation but perhaps it’s just a firmware limitation and it can’t be implemented differently.
-
Exactly, it needs to be available on demand. Similar to,say, backlight

On SA It would be cool to have the % of the climbs when we saw it in the manual laps
I can’t see the auto laps anymore…
-
@ink357 Yep, I thought the same when I tested the climb this weekend. The current % is awesome, It would be even more to have it in SA.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Hard reset was the answer for my problem. I did it in morning and everything is working just fine. Today I tried many times if it still crashes but it doesn’t.
I think it was caused by bug or some error during install of new update. I could repeat system crash three times in 10 minutes. Crazy enough it only happened with new watch face where are both daylight and barometric ring. Reboot only happened while that certain mode was selected. No other mode or watch face caused that. Strange.
-
@Jugger just to validate after full factory reset you are all good right ?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Yes factory reset was all I need. No need to get new watch. Thanks for your help.
-
Fun fact: S+ Weather shows water temperature, when immersed in water in will show popup with temperature.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
Is the update already out for everyone ? -
@sartoric yes
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
Ok.
A friend of mine had the notification in the app, but suuntolink did not update the S9
But I just got a message, that he got it this morning. -
Upgrade suuntolink
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos hmm, Im still getting the following msg, while suuntolink is on 3.1.4 version. Should I wait a little bit more or is it possible to get the firmware file here and update to 2.12.30 manually? (I am S9 not S9B)
-
@NikosX perhaps restart suunto link or reinstall. The update is out for all. Or some firewall?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Hello, firewall disabled but no luck, so I used a vpn and I finally got the update. Its strange as Suuntolink it is updated without issue. Most likely something with my network. Thanks for the help.
-
@NikosX Roger that. Good morning

In climb S+ mode there’s grade in %. How can I make any sense of it? How does it relate to degrees?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel in general 45 degrees should be 100%. You can check on the internet how to use distance and angle to compute it.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel inclination
0 is flat up to 100 which is 90degrees if not mistaken
However the way to interpret it is this for me.
Grade: If you climb 100m in 1km it’s 10% grade
VS: If you are climbing with a vertical speed of 10meters per minute you will gain 100 meters up in 10 minutes. In a 10% grade you will also have covered one km.
-
@isazi that’s what I’ve also found but wasn’t sure if it’s the same in Suunto.
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos, thanks, this makes sense.
Also, how often is this data smoothed in case of S5 which doesn’t use baro for elevation?
