Route error?
-
So I loaded up a route to run this afternoon, 16km with the last section traveling along a road I cover at the start of the run. All was fine until I got back onto that road at around the 12km mark, it didn’t seem to pick up the left turn and instead continued on as if I were back towards the start of the run; up until that point the navigation from the watch was flawless.
Anyone else experience this, GPS glitch or something similar? Have a few long ultra’s lined up for later in the year and I’d hate to be sent off route lol. Thanks in advance

@MiniForklift
yes if I remember right all our ultrarunning friends like @Brad_Olwin and former user silentvoyager reported this already…
some races seem to do loops and of course trainings, too… and the watch sometimes picks up the line it wants… it somehow should mark lines already used as second priority.
if you search the forum you’ll find more info about itedit: aah, right, and @stromdiddily https://forum.suunto.com/topic/3598/s9-route-guidance/9?_=1589695467485

This is normal behavior. Happen to me milion times. You have to know which direction is correct. Important thing is that after few seconds watch realizes your path and you can see arrow of direction again.
Why is this fine for me: because I can decide in second, that I will do same track again ( and again and again) so navigation should behave like on the start, right? But If I know that I will go home I must know where to turn and arrows of navigation will follow… Conclusion, Arrows of direction must follow my decision. Watch doesnt know if I come to the same path, what is my decision and direction. Maybe I will go home or maybe I will go on the same track again

@zvonejan
I disagree here (assuming i understand you purpose )
If one plans a route which goes by one point multiple times, but each time following a new path direction, the watch must first shows the user what one has decided at first decision when creating this route.
When using the route, if you decide to change decision, it is up to you, and the watch will accept your decision after a while, showing you the direction you finally choose. -
Objection accepted :). You described perfect scenario of working in this kind of situation. But…if Suunto predict that in go programming…probably thic calculating will consume additional battery. Right now we have a magnetic following, it is not perfect, but works fine from my point.

Seems like there’s room for a feature addition/re-instatement here for those who are bothered by this.
An option for manual override of the watch’s chosen Next WP. Similar to the Ambit’s Skip Waypoint but context dependent (and route-adherent): when the watch registers a route overlap proximity it throws up the choice of next WP for selection by button press.
Obviously not to everyone’s taste but could be enabled/disabled in Sport Mode, Settings, whatever. As could the distance/time to overlap before notification, if one wants to get fancy.

@MiniForklift I think now you can consider this “fixed.” Here is the issue, when you decide not to go to your destination, the route will reverse, or change in your case. This is a desired behavior as you do not want your watch always telling you to keep going when you turned around. I reported the original bug as I had the same issue and was routed in the wrong direction. But…we now have waypoints!!! So when doing your ultras (hope that both of ours are not canceled, some of mine have been already) use waypoints and the routing should work properly. I like to add waypoints for aid stations. I have not had time to test this thoroughly but I will to make sure if a waypoint is placed on an overlapping or complex looped route, I won’t get routed the wrong way.
