Suunto 9 Discounts

@stromdiddily
or an S11? -
@TELE-HO maybe…seems weird they designate the current model as Gen1. Unless they consider the limited edition models as another generation…
-
@stromdiddily
mine is limited and gen1, too.
I think that’s a misconception between engineers and marketing…if you take ambit, the first one was just called ambit, not ambit 1… then came 2 and 3… with Suunto 9 they call it gen1, as you suggest it could be that there will be a gen2, but I don’t expect that. marketing wize it would appear like a facelift and not like the brand new flagship that puts everything else aside…
… I would call the new flagship Suunto 99 -
Maybe the S9 Gen1 was the first S9 that was a Baro even if it wasn’t marked as Baro ?
just brainstorming … -
@sartoric
only our friends with S9 non baro could tell… but they are rare… and once they notice that the alti readings are hmmmmm well, offish, they go and upgrade to something with baro… if the successor of S9B has a lockbutton, I’ll give Suunto some of my money… if not I’ll get a new mountainbike
-
-
@sartoric
I would dig deep in my wallet of course… for the bike -
So far only color combinations of Gen2 are known, not feature updates…
SUUNTO 9 G2 TITANIUM WHITE
SUUNTO 9 G2 TITANIUM BLUE
SUUNTO 9 G2 ALL BLACK
SUUNTO 9 G2 DARK
SUUNTO 9 G2 WHITE
SUUNTO 9 G2 SAND -

Not sure how long these have been posted but there are substantial discounts on the S9 line…is there a gen 2 coming!!!
I just checked Suunto’s official web page and for the S9 Baro there is no discount, only the for gold and cooper versions. In fact the standard models are out of stock. And in Amazon prices are quite stable over the months, when discounts start in Amazon then will be the time for the new model to come.
The ones that have a big discount are the S9 non Baro, but these ones have been on discount for several months, you can easily fins them under 300 €.
Theoretically, next month or the other the S9B will be 2 years so they probably present something, but maybe Corona has delayed something. Something is there in the oven or at least that is what I suspect reading between lines some field tester hoping that the OHR of the S7 goes in new watches…
On the other hand, if my S9B works as good as for now I’m not going to upgrade yet, mine is from November last year so Is quite new but one never knows I love gadgets… But my intention is upgrade with gen5 or gen6 Besides I spend quite a big amount of money yearly in gear for running and MTB.
I do not know, but maybe it is my way of practicing sport but I do not see too much advantage to add and add a lot of fancy features that eventually doesn’t add much. Do not get me wrong, for example I been checking some images and reviews of the Polar Grit X (probably if I ever switch brands I will go for a Polar) and I see the nice screens but when you are running over 160 bpm you can’t see any of this fancy and tiny numbers and animations at least I can’t, so what’s the sense of it? If it is there of course is nice to have, but will I use it? I do not think so. I my opinion all this info should be there for the after exercice analysis. One of the things that I would like, or at least to try, in Suunto is something similar to Climb Pro, and I think they can do it, but even that I would like to know how many people uses it extensively.

@cosmecosta I believe S9 started shipping in August 2018. I’ve bought mine in August 2019 with a great discount already

Yes I also bought mine with a big discount, in fact I bought it in Amazon cheaper that the price that it has now. When talking about big discounts I like to use Suunto’s web page as reference or tendency. As an example, I bought my SSU some months before the S9B was launched and it already has big discounts in Suunto’s web, of course I bought it even cheaper in Amazon but the case was that it was discounted in Suunto’s web and this is not the case for the S9B now. This means something regarding a new product launch date? Probably yes if we think about product stock or not if they already are low on stock.
I have a friend that works in one very big sports online shop, they have increased their invoicing in more than 50% during Corona lock-down and he told me that manufacturers, lots of them have broken their stocks. I thought it was only for home training but he has told me that also for outdoor activities, with this I also see normal that Suunto has run out of S9 units.
All this is my guessing so could be that I am totally wrong

@zvonejan I thought it was announced earlier, but shipping in August.
-
Available to buy from end of june 2018. Check old (and almost retired) forum for Suunto
-
@cosmecosta that’s not accurate…multiple 9 baro versions are 30% off.
-
@stromdiddily yeah. But not all. Standard black and white no discount. Wonder if there will be something very soon oder later. So excited. Very happy with my S9B. But I think of buying G2 if it kicks ass…
Most spekulativ for me is, if it is a S7 (display, wear OS) with today’s S9 characteristics, battery… I would also think of updated OHR with oxymeter…
-
good for everything, but hopefully not wearOS
-
@stromdiddily These offers are regional, don’t apply in every market. Here the Spanish web shop without discount:
-
It seems that also the5krunner is betting on a new S9 arriving soon:
My suspicion is that we will see a Suunto 9 Gen2 and a Suunto 5 Gen 2 as well as a few more onboard software features at the same time. I don’t know the naming nomenclature – be it Gen 2 or 2020 or v2. We will see software features also continuously added to the Suunto 7 Wear OS app, all I know there is that Suunto is ‘considering’ the omissions that have been raised by users but that no roadmap is available for our eyes.

@cosmecosta That grey s9b is amazing.
@isazi looks like good times are coming after all this lock down…
Simple as ABC.
