GPS bugs on Suunto9
-
@Cuba1hr that doesn’t look well not sure what to say here but it looks like indeed you don’t get good accuracy here. I would like to see the complete picture though.
-
I went for a short walk by the sea to calibrate the altitude, it was 10m off - 2m above the sea it was showing 12m.
So, short walk (about 300 m), synced with app, waited after signal acquiring, again GPS + Beidou, unfortunately I didn’t go back to check only GPS + QZSS.
It is again way off on the first walk, then better on the second, but it missed the turn on the road completely to the finish on the second image.
The start on the first is on the left side of that road (not on the building more than 10 meters away), just like the line on the second image just before the end.
I said, it is a hit or miss. -
@Cuba1hr I did a run with A3P, S9B and S5 yesterday. The distances were very close and the tracks of S9B and A3P are very similar. GPS only on S9B. I can post some photos if you like.

@Brad_Olwin It’s not necessary just because of me. I will try the day after tomorrow to test GPS vs GPS+Beidou again.
It is something like some of you were writing before, better accuracy on GPS only vs Galileo.Dimitoris was praising GPS+Beidou while testing, even before the official firmware was out (as were some of you others after), so I expected it to be closer to…again my other watch, and to be consistent. Maybe only GPS would be better, but you would expect 2 system together to be better than one…don’t know what else to write. I will try that on tuesday and with run.
-
@Cuba1hr I believe the coverage is location dependent. I am in Colorado, US and I have not seen any significant improvement with multiple satellite systems over GPS.
-
I am in south central Europe (eastern some would say ) and I had big expectations of Galileo. In the end was a bit disappointed. I hoped that 2 systems would catch up with the GPS only on SirfStar IV chipset and to be close.
-
@Cuba1hr I think for Dimitrios in N Eastern Europe Beidou is as good as SirfStar.

@Brad_Olwin
I am a bit on the NW more, couple of states:)
You saw my screenshots. Let’s not waste posts until I test more. -
Hi guys I sold my S9B so I won’t test anymore.
Thank you once again for all of your help, I am going back to the “neighboring camp” again, with my previous watch and complete platform at the moment…with my eyes on their newest release, expecting new reviews considering GPS accuracy to make decision about the purchase again.
When I got S9 I was unaware of Movescount abandonment, finicky light activation while running (2 wet fingers/gloves tap), disappointment in daily battery life with HR tracking and GPS issues I had considering the price.
Maybe one day I will be back to Suunto. I wish Suunto will be able to fix most of the bugs mentioned here on this forum and add new features via SuuntoPlus to you.I will keep following the forum and hopefully continue using QS too.
Goodbye for now. -

thank you, I wish that, too!
the focus for athletes should be on the activities, not messing around with the expensive toy -

Almost half the retail priceyep, I tried bid a watch on this forum for 5 euros, but the topic has been blocked.
our community had became more and more humor less.
I hope you find a good way to start a new adventure.

We missed your humour (at least me ), i was used to it.
-
@zhang965 it wasn’t about having fun, it was just decided that the forum is not a marketplace. There’s hundreds of places on the internet where to sell used stuff.
-
@zhang965 Sorry I had to cut you off with that one. We did not want the marketplace issue to get started. I was a funny comment. We won’t remove it from this thread:)

@Saketo-Nemo I just tried GPS + Beidou today and indeed it was really more precise :
So I will keep this configuration and I hope it will work well again !
(but the elevation was still very underestimated though…)Thanks for your help !

@bastpp
Happy to see that! -
Hi guys, I came to check the new posts here, not much was happening. I was thinking (hard) about Fenix 6 Pro and Grit X for a replacement for my ex S9B. I was also looking at S7 at one point, but even shorter battery life and 2 platforms (Suunto and GoogleFit)…it is a nice watch but not replacement for S9.
I went the same road for a walk yesterday again for the first time with the Grit X, and results were almost perfect, following the road with the same Sony GPS chipset S9B has. V800 and Grit X were within 10 meters out of each other in total distance in shorter and longer walk, with nicely laid track. That’s with Galileo, maybe even better results I’ll get with Glonass next time as I read. No Beidou available for now.
So far, so good, but now I miss a couple of things from S9B. I knew that when I didn’t opt for F6Pro - compass and altimeter outside activity, temperature visible on the watch, sunset time, goal with calories set, backlight completely off (during buttons presses), etc.
Most of those things can be sorted out with the updates and I will keep watching which Finnish team, if and how soon, will bring some news and updates on those watches…or just offer a new one. G2, S11 or SX in case of Suunto…I am also interested if the Polar’s Vantage series will get any more updates. Everyone’s so mysterious about the updates suddenly.

Hey, since my topic was closed for creating another ‘bad gps’ topic, I will ask for help here. Please find my route attached. Red is how it is supposed to be - blue is what suunto 9 baro has measured. I run this one 3 times per week and tested every possible gps setting. It is always updated and I huse the best performance setting. I have it paired with suunto HR strap - but doubt it is the problem.
This example shows around 400 meters being cut from my route.
Any suggestions?
