@RiphRaph but as with every other technology, nothing is perfect. I just checked a weighted climb I did two weeks ago with Stryd and my S9 baro: the watch says ~320 meters of elevation, Runalyze says ~420 meters of elevation (they apply a different threshold and reprocess the FIT file sent by Suunto), Stryd says 230 meters of elevation. Now which one is the right one? I have no idea 🙂

@isazi Fair enough. But I was mostly thinking about non-baro watches. Any barometer would yield more satisfactory data than an algorithm that thinks seven equals zero. 😉

@RiphRaph I think that the algorithm doesn’t think that 7 equals zero, I’m quite convinced that it thinks: I’ve arrived at 7 during certain period of time then I start to count (and I guess it includes the 7 m).

This discussion have already been placed somewhere here by a former user, and great discussions about ascent algo with @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos.
I also think the last S9 FWs have changed the way ascent is cumulated, but no so sure to remember correctly.

@cosmecosta I’m not sure. One of my fairly flat 5k loops registers 30m of total ascent for Stryd but 7m (and on some memorable occasions, zero m) on my non-baro Spartan, so it doesn’t look to me as though those initial 7m are being considered.

As has been noted before, this isn’t exactly a mountain trail; the undulations are pretty minimal. Still make a difference to effort/power though, which is why I find them of some interest.

Even if it has been changed, it still does not work satisfactorily on a Non-Baro 9. After a run with good GPS-reception on a not too flat course I quite often receive the 0/7, 7/7, 0/21 etc numbers, while the - realistic - graph in the app shows a very different picture. It seems elevation is tracked rather nicely and not too badly, but is not used at all in SA (or even MC).
In my opinion not the best approach at all - I would really like to see the acquired data (altitude) used in a better way.

@RiphRaph That is cool, I did not realize Stryd would broadcast that. Would be useful for non-baro watches.

@RiphRaph Had exactly the same problem with my spartan trainer wrist, some of my usual runs with 90m turned into 0m now! what is happening?

                        I have a similar problem…
Trail race, 10km, height difference 500m, and the clock showed only 163m!!!

@DRezvoff You posted on another thread, please try to post on one thread, that way we can help you better. I think the answer you are seeking is already in this thread. Without a barometer your elevation gain/loss will not be as accurate and will depend on GPS.

@sartoric The clock began to lie a lot calculating climb.
And exactly determining the coordinates… error up to 30-50m at a distance of 1km, at 8km a sumy error up to 400-600m…
                                Error in height at 8 km distance of trailraning 200-300 m… 😠 😠 😠

how do I fix the climbing error?!
watch lies on trail races summarily at 200-300 m or at 20-50 m per 1 km. I run uphill, the height difference on the 50km map, the clock shows a climb of 7m… and this is in an almost open area, the track of the Biathlon Academy, on which the Winter Universiade 2019 was held.

@drezvoff you can fix ascend/decend manually in SA: go to workout, touch the pencil icon, write elevation values from Strava or somewhere else.
To improve it during workout: wait a little bit after GPS icon turns green before you start the training.

Generally, elevation is not so good on a device without baro.

@dmytro before the start of training, I do warm-up for 10 minutes, watch in “waiting” mode and search for GPS + GLONASS satellites, accuracy is the best.
Certified international ski tracks and biathlon tracks are not closed by the forest, the tracks are wide (5-8m + shoulder). Such an Error in the calculation of height, in the hours that in 2018 were the top model is unacceptable.
Making changes to the training, every time you finish it, is not very convenient

@drezvoff ok, than I don’t know, what else to suggest. Maybe contact support and they will offer you a discount, so you can buy something with a baro sensor?

That’s what I do to correct my elevation, if it’s not that good. Maybe automatic elevation correction will come eventually to SA.
