      Hi guys

I have read manual and looked on watch. I am pretty sure you can not lock your main screen. (You can in ambit3)The buttons are so large it is constantly changing screen. Is this available or do you think it will be?

I work outdoors and do not often here my phone or watch ringing. In the ambit3 your main screen would show missed calls or texts with an icon. Any idea if this will happen again in an update. Very annoying having to push buttons to see if you missed anything when your hands are dirty or wet.

yes, I have requested this lock in watchmode like a million times… anyone using the watch casual AND wears gloves will be missing this…
But let’s further discuss this in the S9 firmware wishlist threads 😉 ✊ ✊ ✊

There are a lot of features implemented in the S9 in a way I don’t understand. They doesn’t seem logical to me and I don’t think it will take a good developer a lot of time to implement/change. Although I am not a developer myself.

The problem is that we don’t know the idea behind it from Suunto. What I would like to hear from Suunto is:

“Yes we intended to implement these features the way we did and we are not going to change it”

            or

“Jeez, good idea dear forum members… we consider implementing/changing this in a future release”

This will end a lot of discussions on this forum, dspite a lot of members will be disappointed if they hear the feature won’t change.

But I doubt we will ever hear.
For now we just have to work around some issues and accept them the way they are.

I would like to see a change/improvement in the UI, but I am skeptical, too…

I guess most S9 users take the watch menu and function as it is. Some users in this forum seek for help and few think further and want to improve things. But the users that take it as it is are the great majority and will be surprised about big changes…
so maybe only small but important changes would be a good compromise

@TELE-HO I think you are right. The problem is that I came from the Ambit and Traverse series which were pretty customizable. Those watches also had their flaws, but I have always seen the Spartan Ultra and the S9 as an Ambit on steriods. Taking all the good points from the old watches and add some extra functionalities and better hardware.

To be honest, most of the features have been moved from the Ambit series to the S9, but made far less acessible, non-customizable or even totally irrelevant. I still love the S9 and I hope Suunto will listen to the UI and UX feedback they get from their users. Especially the ones that, in my opinion, are easy to implement. But once again, I am not a developer…

The one thing that disappoints me more and more is the way (aka lacks of) Suunto communicates with the customers. Hopefuly they will change this in the future

Sadly Spartan Ultra or S9 is not Ambit on steroids. I really doubt that the person who designed the new UX has seriously used Ambit or Traverse at all. There some good ideas in the new UX but a lot of very good and proven design ideas from Ambit were completely ignored.

Ambit’s UX is logical and easy to learn after one day of using it.
After that it feels like second nature and you never have to think or read any hints on the screen when using the watch.

The new UX is often illogical and inflexible. For example, how many people do really know about using a long press to return from a menu? How many people know that they need to tap the screen to get to certain functions that are otherwise unreachable. I wasn’t aware of that for a good few months of using the watch. Why an activity is started and paused/stopped by different buttons (unlike Ambit/Traverse), which makes new users accidentally change battery mode? And yes, why the battery mode had to be surfaced how high on activity start screen? Is that a commonly used function? How many people can safely dismiss the “satellite lost” notification without reading the screen? I can’t after year and half of owning the watch. Why some menus require a long press on middle button and some menus - lower button? Why there are no shortcuts like in Ambit/Traverse? Why some options appears in sport settings but apply globally to all sports? Why Glonass and Galileo settings are not per sport and not in the same bucket as turning GPS on/off? Why going to altitude or steps screens turns OHR on? Why recovery time is buried so deep in the menu?

The watch UX could be greatly enhanced with some really minor tweaks. But “one size fits all” seems to be the new norm.
