Future S9 firmware wishlist summary

@dmytro well yes but before replacing something working fine, insure your replacement is good too… A bit like buying a new car without wheels, we will install them later, it’s a brand new car.
-
I would love to see something relatively easy:
have “torch” like shortcut . eg long pressing to “down” key on home to turn the screen white and light the backlight for a predefined timer (15-30 sec max) . It is extremely useful nad possibly lifesaving in dark situations
-
i would love to see a new firmware with a lot of bug fixes ( battery drain, etc.)
-
@clemens-renzl Roumors are that Suunto has fixed the battery drain issue, but no release yet unfortunately.
I was hoping for a Christmas present…Does anyone know (and is allowed to tell) why Suunto is bundeling their fixes in a release roughly every quarter or half year instead of doing multiple smaller releases more frequent?
-
@surfboomerang it’s easier to manage the development and testing process, I suppose. Less public versions, easier debugging, more streamlined process that leads to a better stability. It doesn’t mean, however, that there are so few versions for insiders.
-
It is well known that there are several “internal” test firmware releases before the official one is delivered to final users.
That’s useful to avoid to distribute potentially annoying bugs, like those that brick watches
-
@sartoric …and the problem with battery drain is annoying too…
-
I was just wondering because sometimes bugs are resolved almost instantly (e.g. v 2.18.20 for S9B and a calendar bug on 1st of January 2020)

@clemens-renzl
Yes, agree, but that depends also on user habits, so could be not that easy to face and identify -
@clemens-renzl I agree, I’m still waiting…I hope they will solve the problem with the battery draining

@freeheeler
@jorge
topographic maps isn’t an option for S9, maybe for a successor (hardware limitation).
Customizable screens would be nice, indeed. On the other hand: I got used to what we have and there’s one thing in my mind: I’d rather have something default and not adjustable but it works rock solid than having the option to adjust it and make it prone to bugs -
@jorge There are some watchfaces that can give you some of the information that you want to see in it, some fields are customizable others aren’t.
Regarding maps, I don’t fully agree with you. The navigation system in the S9 works really well, really. Will maps give any advantage in this tiny screen? I do not know, never tried.
Talking about battery life, if you check some other posts you will read that this is a know bug that will be solved in the next update.
-
@cosme-costa I’d say so. Oftentimes I struggle on forks because of the absence of maps.

I was really pleased to see something very similar to this when I used ‘Snap To Route’ on a hilly run earlier this week. Would be good if we were able to customise or add to the data that we see on that screen?
For example, it shows altitude at the top but I’d find my total elevation gain more useful. Having the option to add in a couple of other metrics such as gradient, battery percentage and/or time of day would make it an even better screen IMO

Please add HR On only on scheduled sleep time, that way I don’t need to manually turn on Daily HR when nighttime before sleep. I think there are people who wants the option to only track HR during sleep. I don’t really need Daily HR always on, but I need the insight on how low my HR goes down when sleeping.

Interesting, I think no one ever asked for that, but makes kinda sense. May be slightly problematic in starting to measure HR only when is sure that you are sleeping. Another solution could be to start measuring in your sleep window anyway and then discard everything outside your detected sleep time.
