@TELE-HO the light buttom in exercise is solved in option-battery- custom battery- touch screen. Then you just tap the screen to make the light go on fore some sek.
Until it rains… Good luck with using the touch screen when it is wet.

@silentvoyager
that’s why lock should be possible to toggle for buttons and/or touchmaybe long press lower button lock buttons and longpress upper button lock touch?
-
@TELE-HO think the best thing would be that the first push of the middle button activates light. Next press activates screen switching (same as in clock mode)

I think this is a bad idea as those (me) wanting long battery life would be activating the light a lot and battery life for long events would be seriously affected. Sorry, but I think the negatives for this are far worse than positives.

@Brad_Olwin
that is also true…
in general it would be good to have more customization of button behaviour. I see a lot of people have different requirements even for the basically same type of sport.
I noticed that I will not need switch on and off lights during an activity. If I go for a run at night 30% backlight permanent on is plenty of light to see the display even with a blinding/reflecting headlamp.
Right now I do a batterylife test with 24h HR and standby light on. (it seems standby light is what it is and not adjustable?)
But for me it’s good enough without the standby light. -
@Brad_Olwin but the backlight is activated anyway when you push the middle button. So I can see that the battery drain will increase? The only difference is that the first push on the middle button does not enable display switching, but only backlight.

- Improved notification process
Dismiss/delete notification from the watch itself
Not repeat notifications if a new one comes in and the previous had not been cleared on the phone - Improved contrast for navigation lines when theme is set to “light” (blue works well against black but is a bit tough with a white background)
- Configurable nav screen (related to yours above but personally care more about duration/distance/lap pace)
- Improved notification process
-
and now something completely different…
… sync on demand?
… lock in watch mode?hope there will soon be another FW update…
meanwhile I am more looking forward for FW updates than SA updates -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos can we merge these threads?

Still waiting on a fix for broken navigation arrows. Navigation must stick much much better to the planned route and not change it at will.
-
Zooming navigation screen in locked mode.
-
An option for choosing between smart recording and true one second recording per sport mode. 1 second recording should also ensure updating the distance every second.
-
More accurate calculation of vertical ascent and descent. The latest firmware did that the wrong way in my opinion.
-
Custom sport modes must inherit settings like GPS mode and breadcrumbs from the base sport modes they are created from. We shouldn’t have to use custom battery modes to turn GPS off because we don’t have to do that for the basic sport modes.
-
Breadcrumbs customizable per sport mode rather than globally as it is currently.
-
Remove popup about the watch being locked and replace it with a smaller permanently visible icon. That will allow e. g. to use the lower button for backlight.
-
Add confirmation for changing battery modes by the upper button. Pressing the upper button should bring a list of all power modes. That will work much better for users who are color blind and for everyone else who change the power modes accidentally all the time.
-
Add zooming for HR and elevation graphs and remember the zoom level per sport mode. That will finally make those graphs usable. Zooming will change the time scale. Bonus points for allowing the zoom controls to work in locked mode.
-
Add extra navigation screen for the next waypoint and/or end of the route. The screen should display all necessary details like remaining distance on route (or off route when not on route), waypoint name, elevation difference, ETA/ETE, etc. See below for my proposal for switching between navigation views.
-
Since there may be up to 3 navigation specific views I propose to move them out of the main screen rotation by the middle button and replace that with a single navigation screen with 3 views: route / breadcrumbs, elevation profile, and waypoint details. Switching between navigation views should be done by pressing the lower button. And accessing the navigation menu - by long press on the lower button.
-
When not in activity, allow users to stay in all non-menu screens for as long as needed - HR, altitude, steps, etc. Or at least add an option for the timeout before jumping back to the main screen.
We need more options to customize the watch the way we want to use it and not the way someone in Suunto decided for us. Do you see a pattern here? A lot of feature requests here are about adding more options for already existing features.

great list!!
hope Suunto will concentrate more on this than on SuuntoPlus… SP was mentioned for few days and some ideas were posted but I have the feeling that as soon as it was clear that SP will not contain structured intervalls, people did not know what more to request apart from a climbing screen and a ghost runner… -
@silentvoyager
for some or a lot of people too much of setup will be a disadvantage. either they will be overstrained or they messup the settings and don’t know what the watch is actually doing (ok, honestly we don’t know exactly either, we can just guess on certain topics).
this thought took me to the suggestion to create a default mode and an expert mode.
it could be done on 2 levels. if expert mode is selected you have to setup everything yourself: baro or alti profile, recording intervall for location, alti threshold, individual touch and/or button lock… and stuff like that.
if you select default mode, you should be able to select expert mode for sport modes only and separately for each sport mode. like an expert toggle in the sport mode setup.and while I am writing this. all the settings should be managable thru SA.
today we have to setup sport modes and notification settings in SA and all the rest in the watch. all could be done from SA -
@silentvoyager Great suggestions!

I wish only that GPS run fine…
Sorry, but It’s the worst GPS that I had ever

I do not know which were your previous GPS watches but I had an Ambit 3 Vertical and a SSU. The A3 Vertical has been the worse of them by far, SSU was better than the Vertical and acceptable. The S9, with GPS+GALILEO and the two last firmware (I did not have the S9 before) it is better than the SSU and very acceptable in my opinion. I’m quite happy with it.

@cosmecosta
yes it’s true… S9B GPS could be better… but I haven’t tried the combo of either of the other 2 systems to see if it improves. I think I’ll do that in case I find motivation to go running between skiing days
But it is also true that A3PS has way way better precision than S9B has.
If I only knew S9B I think I would be happy with what it records. Since I compare sometimes with A3PS directly, I know that Suunto did better with the Sirfstar chip. -
@silentvoyager Awesome list, I love it! I hope those points will get to the people who could actually do something with it. I mean it’s great to have hope in something new like SuuntoPlus but seeing your list I am almost sure that at least some of those points should be reconsidered. To make our watches more user friendly. To make it better for day to day use.

If I only knew S9B I think I would be happy with what it records. Since I compare sometimes with A3PS directly, I know that Suunto did better with the Sirfstar chip.I had the A3 Vertical that despite using the Sirfstar chip dosen’t have the antenna in the same position than the A3 Peak (so I can’t compare) and the SSU has the Sirfstar chip and GPS is worse (not much) than the S9. I do not know if they did better with the Sirfstar that with Sony chip but I do think they are really improving, working on it and in a very good direction. What would be good is to compare how the S5 does comparing with the S9 (S5 has has the same antenna disposition than the A3Peak) and compare the different brands with Sony Chip with the Suunto 5/9, here I think that Suunto is doing well (I do not read much complains about)
-
@cosmecosta
i noticed that the antenna of S5 must be where it was in A3PS as the housing looks identical.
…maybe I should get an S5 for my wife, if she wants it or not… it’s for the sake of science
…no serious: good point! I’ll open a thread about it -

I keep having no problems with that, my gym activities have 0 ascent and 0 descent, always.
