@mff73 you can know the level of humidity in the air true the gps signal because thz more there is humidity in the air, the longer time it takes to transmit a signal and they used this system for meteo so maybe it’s possible.
At least it should be possible when you sync phone and watch.
check this : https://support.garmin.com/fr-FR/?faq=Mxs4eRXzRdAYJ0h7yyWaj9
So why we can’t do it ?
With watch to phone connexion, it is another story : phone locates by GPS, phone download meteo with internet (if there is network where you are) of estimated location, and transmit to watch. But GPS signal itself does not contain temperature.
-
@mff73 maybe i’m not realy clear in english. i’m ok it can’t work all the time especially in the mountains.
But a majority of the time we are in the city, at home or worst at work.
So i think we can synchronise trough the app.
One time per day offering a " bulletin meteo".
When your phone have converge it can update temperature each time you synchronise with it ?Is my idea as bad as this ?
-
@g287-sf
not bad idea, just with misundertanding at beginning you said ‘sync local temp’ via GPS
Ok, clear now, not bad idea, just it is a nice smartwatch option.S7 should have this, and I really doubt S9 will have this. But dreams comes true sometimes.
-
@mff73 i haven’t talk english since few years even more technically

Yes the S7 has a weather forecast tile, and can install some weather apps too.
-
I really could use a new watch face, simple but with height/ date/ time/ sunset-rise.
Like the outdoor one, but with 4-5 fields -
@theguyfromthesummit ahh I totally forgot:
One dedicated “slide” only for sunrise and sunset.
That these times are only shown by 1-2 watchfaces is annoying. -
Emoji rendered correctly on watch notifications.

A function claimed for a long time has been integrated at garmin (14.72): an ULTRARUN sport mode to manage stops or refueling stations without stopping the stopwatch (time continues to pass) but by stopping the GPS (distance).
Choice between the optional functions either “Lap + Rest” or “Rest only”: by choosing this mode, after pressing Lap, the total elapsed time and the time spent in “stop” are displayed on the screen (this allows you to control the duration of the shutdown).
Press Lap again and the normal display resumes with the total time and the GPS reactivated.
Extra! When at Suunto?is that what you are referring to ? https://youtu.be/IV3Vi0MoQOc?t=305
That sounds good on paper but when I go up a steep pass and walk slowly, will that be considered rest time too ?
-
@frederic and I would always forget to hit the buttons. The last thing I am thinking about at aid stations is to make sure I hit my lap button.

Usually the last thing I am wanting to during a race is hit any buttons!
-
@rob33 so according to DC Rainmaker it does not stop the recording, it is just a black screen with a timer while everything is still measured in the background. The advantage is that the time the black rest screen is on it will be classified as “rest” in Connect. It is more or less what happens with strength exercises.

I typically lock the screen during a race. I have 2 screens for ultras, very simple as well as a loaded route and altitude profile. On my phone or on a laminated paper I have a couple sets of aid station times for two different finish times, my best if all goes well and the cut off times. I usually save these as a wallpaper for my phone so if I turn my phone on I can see the aid stations, elevation gain loss between each aid, pace and time between aid stations.
I don’t pay much attention to the watch during the race, but typically look at where I could have done better after a couple of days. -
@brad_olwin what screens d

Not a bad idea and something I might look to try, especially for those longer ultra’s

A nice feature would be the VO2 max for trail (like an another brand ) taking into account the D+ and temperature
-
@ink357 that’s just licensing another firstbeat module surely? The S9 has picked up firstbeat features since launch (recovery/stress) so it’s not implausible?
Now that firstbeat are
in-bedin-house with Garmin, it might happen, but we can but guess. -
-
@ink357 oh no, please, not another metric that will haunt me and keep me forever under a certain threshold

The S-series does supply VO2 Max from trail running. All my VO2Max is calculated this way. Already ahead of G……
