Future S9 firmware wishlist summary

I would love to get a turn-off screen more agressively or even a setting for turning it off on normal wear.
A lot of times I like to travel, I dont care to see the time per se so I could live with a black screen if that would give me duble the juice that I bet it does.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Or even the ability to turn the watch off, without returning it to shipping mode …
-
A dedicated waypoint navigation screen like in Ambit3 with waypoint name, bearing, distance on route, ETE, etc etc.

I’d buy an S9B if it had basic navigation features (albeit mapless) at least as good as the A3P or Fenix/FR. Preferably better. Full POI, waypoint, route handling.
But Suunto is trending in the opposite direction.
You can still use the MC app to do this with the SA app for now and this permits full Waypoint and POI functionality. I am using the S9B this way. By the time MC is gone we should have full support in SA. So, take advantage of the Black Friday deals if/when they come.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos It would be nice to have functionality like other smart watches, screen goes off while not using it and goes on with some arm movement. That way you can conserve battery power, but on the other way you can offer different watch faces with more color and positive look (white background and color numbers) as it won’t dry too much the battery power since it is most of the time off

@Brad_Olwin As stated above (a few times):
Well aware of the apps. The thread’s about FW for the watch. My particular insane wish is for the watch to do navigation things the A3P and the Fenix series do (minus the latter’s maps). Without having to haul out and fire up a phone that might be in a rucksack, etc.
-
@bbx100
my screen goes off after one minute (?) without motion… so basically during a usual working day the screen is like 8 hours off -
@nseslija you are right. I knew how to lock but completely neglected this way. I just ran and locked my watch and it was perfect. With upper button I get the backlight without switching the display. Spot on. I would pull out from fw feature request backlight issue.
-
@morskilav
with the hint of @patterbt I’ve setup custom battery mode that is equal to standard mode (the green one) and just toggled touch screen on… this way I can swipe left-right when unlocked (but I’m never unlocked…) hence it would be great to swipe when locked, too!!
BUT what I wanted to mention to you is: with locked buttons (and screen…) you can with this settings tap once on the screen and the light goes on.
I didn’t expect this but liked it when I noticed it. -
@TELE-HO with watch in locked mode during activity upper button activates light whereas middle button both activates light and immediately switches the display. Thanx for your hint regarding custom battery mode…will try this…although days are getting colder here so today I ran with gloves and I find handling the watch via buttons when in gloves much easier

@morskilav
…true… i’m still in summermode -

Leave it in. Update would be the screen that tells you the watch is locked to be way less obtrusive so you can actually see the data right away as opposed to having to wait for the lock notification to disappear.
-
@Brad_Olwin Please could you explain how you do this. I thought you could not use both SA & MC app at the same time.
-
Probable date of death \(◎o◎)/
Garmin will put it soon.- Another metric.
-
@auxina
what if watch is wrong, will I get my money back? -

So I don’t understand what you are missing? Once waypoints and POIs are implemented (assuming we can name them) what more would you need. The fenix can plot a route on the watch but not the A3P and the A3P cannot calculate or display distance along a route, only in a straight line to the next waypoint. I found that essentially useless, so waypoints on A3P were not as good as the dual app solution we have now for the S-series.
-
@Brad_Olwin Short version: I’ve nothing against the Dual App Solution (worst prog rock band ever). It is just that the watch could be more. Navigationally, the Fenix is. In remote areas, why require a second potential tech failure point? Or drain two batteries via BT (and a display) rather than one.
Longer version I’ve PM’d to avoid clogging this thread. Bit of a screed but explains the usage cases/arguments.

while I enjoy the latest S9 firmware, I don’t want to make an ungrateful impression…
But I’d like that we summarize some suggestions as a list…- light button in watch/activity mode (no unlocking)
- lockbutton in watch mode (e. g. 3sec press)
- swipe left-right to flip screens in activity
- toggle satellite systems on-off independently
- HR info (and pace?) in navigation screen
- longer duration of vibration for alarm
- FW update by bluetooth and SA
- blood oxygen saturation (in case Valencell is ready for this?)
anything else?!
Just a little addition
On Navigation Screen
Data Field for “Distance covered / Total distance (If route is used)”
