The suspension of the loyalty offer between Nov 20 & Dec 1, which DCR connects to discount season, is interesting. Does the loyalty of Spartan, Ambit & Traverse owners somehow become markedly less valuable over those particular days? Are they back to being regular punters (presumably with watches that will be re-enabled by a Movescount web fully reactivated just for that period)?
Wouldn’t maintaining the scheme through that period make more sense in terms of loyalty-appreciation? Consistent discount on the prices, whatever they would be, suggests sincerity. Interruptions (perhaps while Suunto courts new buyers): not so much.

@isazi Yup: that’s my point. Rather than having loyalty rewarded, for that period S,A&T owners are back on the same level as everyone else. Probably a bit annoyed, having taken advantage of the offer, if a My First Suunto buyer picked up something at “more than 30% discount looking around”.
Sincerity would be applying the offer on top of the discounted price, wherever the watch was found, maybe via arrangement with secondary retailer, maybe by reimbursement from Suunto directly with proof of purchase.
Remember, the choice of timing on all of this was all Suunto’s. Could’ve kept MCweb going until Dec 1. Offer begins therafter. Or until Jan X, to get beyond post-holiday sales. Whenever there was a 6 month gap between major sales to follow. (If such exists globally, to be fair.)

I just had a rather frustrating call with one off the UK Tech support guys who tried to tell me that I did not purchase Movescount as a facility but only purchased the Spartan and thus they have the right to remove all functionality, i.e. route creation and POI’s at their will.
Indeed he even went as far as to tell me POI’s were not part of what I purchased, despite having a manual (thankfully I saved it down rather than relying on the updated online version) which tells me in detail how to add POIs to the watch in a advance of use. I will except Demetrios from this statement but all the other people I have spoken to via email and on the phone from Suunto have been obtuse, arrogant and utterly unhelpful and have only made me feel even more anger towards the brand. Unfortunately I can’t even take the watch back to where I bought it from and make it their problem because I bought it direct from Suunto.
All I want is what I purchased and what I currently have; I’m happy with it. It’s like buying a performance car and the manufacturer deciding at the annual service to ‘upgrade’ your engine from the 4.0 V8 to a 2.2 I4.

@Fenr1r well I disagree with you. Suunto will probably have a 30% or higher discount during that week for everyone, so it doesn’t make sense to keep the discount code valid during that week. If you have an older watch you have 6 months to decide what to do, and you probably already decided, and you can get 30% discount now or next year.
This is just for sake of discussion during my coffee break. I don’t want to hijack this topic with other stuff.

It doesn’t make sense if the sole corporate goal is maximise returns at all times. It makes complete sense if Suunto genuinely “want [S,A&T-owners] to know that we appreciate [them], and that we’d love to continue adventuring together”.
But you’re right that the offer is only tangentially related to the Nov Transition Update.

@Ennoch POI support in the app is coming that is something discussed and #1 prio. Better than currently on MC.

I think the offer says that the 30% discount is applied to the actual price in the web when the order is made, so I understand that this week is not included because then you can get a really good deal, black friday discount + 30% discount…

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Is there a date for this? Ultimately I’m still forced to move away from my twin widescreen monitors to a stupid little phone screen but the POI is a huge one.
The other bit is now having to pay a fee to create routes in software such as Strava or use frustrating home-baked sites to do what I can do in Movescount at the moment. If I could return this watch I would in a heartbeat - but as I’ve said before, I do appreciate your help and support in trying to resolve these issues. It’s just unfortunate that Suunto’s business model is firmly at odds with both how I do business, and what I want from my watch (what it does now).

I wouldn’t buy anything direct from Suunto - that’s what I did with my Spartan Ultra. Unfortunately this means when you’re dealing with wilfully obtuse CSA’s on their helpdesk you’re unable to do anything as their response is basically ‘tough tits, deal with it’. At least if you bought it from a shop you could take it back and make it their problem.

@Ennoch I do hope that the first version of pois is out OCT. I am also working on that regarding Android.
In regards to the BIG screen, not to say it to promote me, I made quantified-self.io for the same reasons like you.
Regarding route creation on MC that is not going away. MC will still allow creation of routes. You can create them there, load the GPX to a drive and get it to SA. Alternatively you can drag and drop the GPX to quantified-self.io and get it on your watch/app.
Not so optimal but not so bad imo

That’s actually very good one. Suunto opens api for third party services, but not for their own platform LOL
But hey, this service will “continue to evolve”. Is there a word with opposite meaning to word “evolution”? Devolution? That would be more appropriate.

Lol sooo true. That is what I thought as well. Actually this aint bad after what I read here. If for example MC has the “best” (from what people say) for them route creation on the WEB, and SA on mobile, I mean why not? Even better. Make only the MC route creation a new THING/Product/Free and voila. Let people come to Suunto by using this. Sorry this was kinda personal opinion, dont want to “ruin” other people’s feedback.

Any news on how Ambit 3 users can add/edit workouts?
That was previously only possible in the MC app and has not shown up in the new solution.

Okay, if Movescount keeps route planning for now then that may be a sufficient stop gap until I can justify the cost of switching to a Garmin, but ultimately it’s still a big question mark of ongoing support as Suunto could just pull the plug on support for that at any moment. Sure, I could trust that Suunto won’t do that but with past behaviours a good indicator of future behaviours I do not trust Suunto as a company, and they very much do not seem to have end users experience in mind with their decisions, so I do not trust that this will stay forever. It’s still going to lead to a crap user experience if I have to create, download, upload etc. This is a premium product with a very bargain basement experience.
I have registered for your site but I’m not really sure it adds much for me unfortunately as the real power of Movescount is/was the all in one place of heat map/route creation/POI’s/analysis etc. I just can’t understand Suunto’s decision to move away from a desktop application because no matter how good the App is, it’s still tracing out routes and doing stuff on a crappy little iPhone screen. A phone is handy for doing stuff outside, or checking up something while not in a position to use a proper computer. For everything else a proper computer/big screen is just infinitely better.
Similarly with POI’s. This isn’t aimed personally at you, but as the only person at Suunto who seems to care about the outward perception of the brand amongst consumers I’ll say it to you anyway; POI’s have been on the to do list for the App for well over a year. It’s been promised since long before I joined this forum as ‘coming soon’. What should make me believe this new report of ‘soon’ or ‘October’? Past performance indicates that Movescount will be blocked from communicating with my device long before POI’s are added in via the App. This is an absolutely ridiculous state of affairs given that I bought the watch because it had the POI functionality. Without it I may as well throw it in the bin. Do I trust that it’s going to be within the next few weeks, or do I stump up a further ridiculous amount of money for a Garmin to regain this functionality that I have already bought?

? Not waypoints on a route correct? ( a little sanity check sorry) …And at what platform are you on (Android / iOS ) ?

Yeah, advanced creation of POI’s as standalone navigation points which are not part of a route (i.e. I know where I’m aiming for but want a marker for an escape gully off the route of a mountain, or a hut, or an avalanche box etc). I use these all the time when I need to know the location of something but could be coming at it from any direction and thus am not interested in a pre-plotted route to get there. POI POIS in other words!
