Spartan update complains

I’m very disoappointed about this this wicked commercial choice by suunto

@halajos said in Spartan update complains:
I assume, that the UI improvements will come to the Spartans as well, since a large part of the software are common among the Spartans and S3/5/9. I hope for VO2max as well to close the gap between the A3 line and the Spartan. I don’t know if the GPS improvements to the S9 are thanks to the Sony GPS firmware update or there are tweaks in the main watch software as well. It may determine whether we can expect something similar for the Spartans.
It would be nice if Suunto gave some hint. The frustration level is rising…The GPS will not come to Spartan for sure, because the chip maker has been acquired by another company, this GPS chip has glonass support as well, but Suunto cannot get the newer firmware from the maker.

So make your voice up,
-
@zhang965 I have already written to support via the suunto app. Let’s see what they answer

the difficulty is, if the spartan line gets the firstbeats features after users’ complains, maybe the ambit3 users will begin complains as well,
hold-on, ambit3 has already got the firstbeats…
-
honestly, all I want is a semi-reliable battery meter. If Suunto can’t pull that off, I will look elsewhere next time around.
-
@zhang965 I think so: the update of the products should be done as long as the hardware allows it … and I believe that from this point of view there is no real limit for the SSU. If Suunto won’t release an update for SSU, I see only one reason for this: a purely commercial policy to get new models to buy
-
Suunto should open back Movescount website for better data analysis…
-
@Valerio-Portesi I can fiddle a bit here and say that this is not commercial.
Any SW affiliated person should know that supporting any variant with the same SW still needs testing + tweking + building pipelines let aside when the HW is not the same.
Your SSU HW you might think its identical to the S9 but it isn’t.
I dont really know the reason why Spartans did not get an update. If I did I would just boldy state it. I am only speculating here. Dont eat me
-
BTW I am also surprised about this (no spartan update) and I got the news while on my vacation (last week to today).
(Today I am working again for 1 day and will be off till 5nov that I finish moving to NL) .
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos don’t worry I don’t hate you
I agree in part, they are not identical but in my opinion except for the cardio wrist sensor, the GPS chip and the larger battery (with dedicated management software) they look (for me) identical. I do not believe that companies change everything from one model to another, even for reasons of production cost (it is worth starting from the platform you have)
Probably is just a delay to test the software for SUU and we are worrying about without real reason. let’s hope it’s so! -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Since you are a beta tester (afaik), don’t you know if there has been FWs for Spartans in beta testing?
That could bring back the hope -
I want to complain about the holidays.
-
@Egika Good point. I had later FW’s on my SSU after that summer update but not any of the recent ones I got on S5/S9.
To be honest I dont test anymore watches. Too little time for me. I have put all my Spartans / S lines to deep sleep and only use my S9 now and on production except if its a GPS update. The main thing I like to test and report back.
Also if it’s the end of updates for Spartans time for my friends to get a free watch , since then I dont want to leave them like that. Willing to test -> sure. But just to have a device there not used no. And I cannot sell them as they are not mine/no need for $$. But that is my story here.
-
I could understand, no Firstbeat features to Spartans, due licenses cost and no GPS improvements (Suunto is focusing on Sony chip), but… no bug fixes?
There is another thing that I cannot understand from Suunto: they release FW and SA always separately, and I think it’s an error because they sell a product HW+FW+SA+Web+…

What do you mean with that ?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos From my viewpoint Companies should to release Features in the platform, not just on one side. For example:
- “Body Resources” it’s present on SX line but not in SA.
- “Daily steps trend” it’s present on SA but not in watches
- …
-
@suzzlo resources is an ephemeral data such as altitude or pressure or temperature. There is no need to have that written in app history as it provides no value afaik.

Perhaps you want to say “…I see no need to…”? because for me, it could be good to analyze my body resources of the last month, or recovery or whatever…
-
@suzzlo I suppose you are correct.
