@zhang965 ---- no chance — still on Ambit2 — waiting for improvements in the App and Firmware before wasting money again …
It’s a wise strategy, I think suunto number line will never get the same (feeling ) as ambit line.
Personally I recommend you to get a second hand SSU if you don’t want wasting money, or garmin/polar stuff.
The difference between ambit and suunto number line is huge, I think as long as you stay with ambit, you will get harder to understand a new generation watch

@zhang965 I had an “SSU Titanium Customized” until last week and dropped it because of issues … I’m now waiting where to go and stay with the A2 Peak Sapphire
And I had Also an S9 BARo & S9BARO Titanium which I also get rid of as long as I could get my money back. I’m not giving up, but I will not wait forever …

@zhang965
what is, by your experience, the battery life in best GPS mode?and another technical question: is it possible to get oxygen values with these LED’s or would it require a different sensor?
I never did a long time activity, my longest move was a 12km 48min run, so for me the battery is enough.
It needs a different sensor for blood oxygen

@zhang965 what makes you think so? Bluetooth/ANT+ consumes also energy and WHR is optimized to use also as less as possible? Just because chast Belt has it’s own battery for sensor and transmission?
It is easy enough to try because Suunto 9 shows estimated battery life on activity start screen.
If my memory is correct, with full charge in Performance mode S9B promises the following:
- With OHR - 25 hours
- With BT HR sensor - 30-31 hours
- With HR turned off - 33-34 hours

i had almost complexe feeling about SSU, it was so awful in 360 degrees.
I was telling myself , when buying S9, there will be nothing awful as ssu, there will be nothing awful as ssu.
Until I opened s9’s package

Personally I recommend you to get a second hand SSU
+1
I just got a new one for 225 EUR (including heart belt).
But I think that my Ambit 3 is the best choice further on.

I’m not bounded to a brand, I’m using V800 and A2PS together, because I need only good pace/power and time/distance during my workouts. The rest is “candy”. And for GPS track quality and battery lifetime these two are still unbeaten (IMHO) for my needs …

With BT HR sensor - 30-31 hours
that would be perfect for my extended skitouring weekends

@zhang965
why is ssu and s9 aweful?
do you like the a3ps design better? -

@zhang965
why is ssu and s9 aweful?
do you like the a3ps design better?A3ps is the best of ambit line, but it’s in past, as a famous suunto community manager said, ssu s9 are not ambit.
You cannot interpret ambit with s9’s logic, ambit3p is the best and s9 is the best as well- in different lines.
The distance between software and hardware makes ssu s9 awful.

do you like the a3ps design better?he said awful - not ugly!
the design of the A3 & A2 is — ähm, unconventional (yes, they are ugly) but the SSU and S9 are also not eye candy. But this is different topic …
-
@johann-fuehrer
I actually like the a3ps design with the brushed silverish ring and buttons and the external gps chip! and it is hopelessly comfy, too -
Nowadays the companies release a unfinished product is a common strategy, ssu’s development was a mess, three years later I’m still feeling ssu is not completed.
And s9, I mean that the moment you know it will be hardly completed again,
-
@zhang965
for distance, alti and some more issues I would still hasitate to upgrade to S9… but I think this could be an option once the dust has settled -
@zhang965
product is finish with improvements and immediately goes phase out
strange strategy…
but I think with my phone it’s different. I choose Sony Xperia as they seem to be deeply tested and have very… veeery few bugs
…and the frequency of releasing phones is higher than watches. but then Sony is much bigger and amount of sold phones hundret times more… -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos whom to talk to to close this thread? Statler and Waldorf occupied this as well so it makes no more sense for others to keep it alive …
-
@johann-fuehrer you can delete it by your own

@johann-fuehrer
no, leave it open, it is not under SA and gives room for some philosophic chats, I appreciate that!
by all the “this and that is missing and not working” I need some info that could convince me to buy an s9 one day instead of getting scared to ever take a step ahead again…

I don’t want a philosophic chat, I wanted to know from users what their pro/cons of the S9BARO are.
And this thread is now the usual “Suunto does not right and do not listen” stuff. Make an own thread for this … You will have at least one guy posting there. Sorry. -
@johann-fuehrer
my takeaway of this threat is:
today my ambit us right for me.
tomorrow, s9b will be my watch when the following is optimized:
gps accuracy (for distance)
baro accuracy (for alti)
lighting will be hard to fix with existing hardware… but if the screen is good to read in bright sunlight i’m fine
now you can close it
