I tested today S9B vs A3PS in direct comparison on a family “hike” with a lot of playground and icecream pitstops…
what I notice is that A3PS has a calmer recording. I saw couple of times while just sitting in the sun (I did not hit pause by purpose!) that S9B keeps showing some speed and adds up distance.
In the end S9B recorded 5.27km and A3PS 4.8km which I consider more realistic. I think this is cause by FusedSpeed?!
Normally I don’t do so much pauses, so for me nothing to worry about.
When I look at the recorded track: yes, A3PS has better accuracy.
And for me the most important value was total ascent: it is a more or less flat topography and S9B recorded 110m while A3PS recorded 117m.Here are the links:

and here’s the link for direct comparison of the track.
…and if you go into the graph you can clearly see that S9B seems to have an issue with the pace compared to A3PS. of course I did not press pause for our pitstops… but you can see pitstops in A3PS pace and S9B is just spikes… also during the entire activity…apart from that: awesome tool @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos

I live in a neutral country, I just say what I seefrom scientific point of view there is nothing wrong to check and compare the truth.
Ok, it is not a representative analysis… this might take a bit longer.
But it’s nice to have two watches and to check and verify what’s discussed in here. -
here’s another comparison of S9B and A3PS. Both watches in performance/Best GPS mode and GPS only.
Both tracks have some offsets on different sections.
During the pauses (they were quite short this time and pause button was not pressed) the watches did not freak out and started counting unwanted distance. S9B showed – in pace field during the my pauses while A3PS showed some min/km.
I see that S9B still has some pace spikes during the activity and A3PS had one major pace spike. But it’s not as bad as with my last test. This is by the way not visible in Strava and SA. QS is very precise in this case.I think the best improvement is the total ascent. My activity was one big climb at start and then one slightely interrupted descent and then rolling terrain until the end. 7m difference is about 1% and more than acceptable for this type of profile in my opinion.

And another one. A stop for the Ambit 3 is not a stop for the S9B. 4 minutes difference in moving time is not okay. And the difference in the ascent is not okay too. I recorded the ride additional with an Amazfit GTS and the results are quite close to the Ambit 3. Astonishing.

https://app.suunto.com/move/skiingone/5db447fb17683a1f54482a7fI think you face the same problem as I do with the S9 Baro. The speed wobbles a lot which, in my opinion, is due to a bad signal reception or GNSS algorithm. This adds some distance to the total track

@surfboomerang
I see that it has improved. The distance is reasonable and differs minor to the distance of A3PS recording.
It was an issue, it has improved. If it is good ebough, I will check in the next month with slow moving activity on skis.
But for me it’s going absolutely in the right direction -
@pilleus agree, your recording of the alti graph looks a bit worse than mine.
I think we must not forget that also sensors have tolerance.
I’m by far not a top athlete but from my personality quite demanding. For me it’s fine as it was today. -
@sartoric I am rather late to join the visibility part of the discussion. For me I more or less solved the issue by simply switching the mode under options to light, also that I have dark numbers on a light background, which improves visibility (for me) vastly, even when the backlight is inactive and the sunlight no longer / still not that bright.

… just compared my wifes and sister in laws half marathon track recordings from last week.
one A3R and one A3PS.
Both are a bit offset… and from a distance it roughly looks like same accuracy as S9B…
every device receives satellite data and calculates individually… this makes me think that it is nice to compare A3PS vs S9B directly but we should not judge too critical…… I mean… please correct me if I’m wrong, but the satellites are located more or less half way to the moon… 1m accuracy is like if you would want to shoot a football from the moon into a goal in whatever stadium, isn’t it?!

Yes, it is. And in all cases the tracks of the Ambit 3 are better. More accurate, more precise.
-
@pilleus
but when I checked A3R vs A3PS they also differ… it’s hard to quantify but it is a measuring system and it has tolerance. That’s my point of view.here are two tracks of the same skitour, both with A3PS… first how it should be, second when recording is crap… even A3PS hast its weak days
edit: if you follow the second track you’ll fall over a not insignificant cliff…

… and I tell my kids not to draw stupid things with chalk on the streets… -
@TELE-HO My theology is a bit rusty but if drawing, carving and/or gardening giant wangs is supposed to appeal to gods of fertility, what does outlining a massive vibrator get you?

I didn’t do this for myself but for others in need as I am a giving person
