S9 Baro takes very long to find GPS signal before a move
-
I had a similar problem today. At the beginning of run watch was on performance mode and no issues it found gps in seconds but when I climbed a uphill which was not covered by any trees or any building etc. It lost the gps and I had to wait for 10 20 minutes to find it back. I can’t understand how it happens. I had to stop the activity, start a new one etc. It was frustrating. Second time it found the GPS there was no issue until end of the run.
BTW any recommendation when to use GLONASS or GALILEO?

I use suuntolink with movescount, I’m a long time Suunto user, this never was an issue before…
No intention to use SA until forced:) -
This issue keeps plaguing my Suunto 9. From time to time it just stops updating AGPS, and the time it takes to find satellites starts to increasingly get worse. Then at some point I reboot the watch by pressing the upper button for 12 second and re-sync, and it gets the new AGPS, and everything is fine for a week or so. Then everything repeats again. That isn’t what I’d call a good experience.
Is Suunto doing anything about this?

I am experiencing this as well. For me at least, seems to be only recently (past 2 weeks or so). Prior to that I would get GPS consistently within 5 seconds, even while I was indoors.

I am not experiencing this and I am typically syncing an S9 baro with MC app. I will check on this and keep updating all of you.
-
@stokje Try MC app and see what happens
-
@silentvoyager No afaik Suunto is not doing something about this so far.
So just to understand you sync with the Suunto app and then you have no AGPS and after waiting for a few for the watch to process them? (Up to 10 minutes?)
Or AGPS is not updated (old date) .
One small thing here. MC app is not the focus here so lets please leave that aside.
-
I use Suunto app to sync my S9. The syncing process sometimes takes up to 3 Minutes!? But it works fine. Starting an activity the GPS fix is done after 3 to 5 seconds. SA is the latest beta, firmware of S9 is also the latest.

AGPS date isn’t updated. When initial sattelite acquisition becomes slow I check AGPS date and find it to be two weeks old. That is despite syncing almost daily. I sync only with MC app. I am not ready to switch to SA.
When you say MC app is not the focus here, does it mean that the issue isn’t relevant to MC app? Or does it mean that the issue won’t be addressed in MC?

@silentvoyager
So the problem is MC App not updating AGPS ?!What happen to AGPS if you connect by cable ?

I don’t know. I’ll test it next time I have this issue. The issue is intermittent.

MC app is being retired at the end of 2019. But, until SA is caught up a bit more, those that are having trouble with AGPS could use SA and MC apps together. You would then be able to sync to MC, use the POIs and workout calendar as well as SA sync to update AGPS. It is not that much hassle to use both but only one app can be running at one time.

After reading this post I said to myself - OK, let’s give it a try!
So, I’ve created a new SA account, paired my Suunto 9 to SA, and synced 19 activities I had on the watch to it.
It may be updating AGPS to my watch now, but the app is simply unusable after the initial sync! It freezes so badly that every tap takes a few seconds for the app to respond. And it is missing some activities including a recent 12 hour run - is that a reason it is freezing by any chance?
If that is what I’ll be forced to use when MC is retired, it won’t take me long to switch to another brand. I have zero tolerance for bad software.

@silentvoyager
there is a “bug” for long run sync, and if you are in that case, until it is fixes, you could use this instead :
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/2841/long-activities-not-syncing-for-android-try-this-version
old version, surely new features missing, but at least to sync your activities, and wait for the fix. -
@silentvoyager what version ? Thanks for the time and effort.
I’ll create an issue for the mc app. Its clear now.
-
@silentvoyager I see the issue. Please if you have a different system font for you system (eg enlarged) switch it back to to normal for the app not to crash
-
Sooooo, more people experiencing problems with updating the AGPS.
MC, cable and SA users, it seems…
What to do now? does Suunto know, if not, how? -

This is the place to let Suunto know … and now they know
-
@stokje I am not sure people said it doesnt get updated via SA or did I miss that?

The font doesn’t seem to be an issue. I’ve reverted back to default font, installed the app again (version 4.6.0 from June 26). It was behaving OK, albeit a bit slow, initially. Then, once I synced it with the watch, it became extremely laggy again, and after a while it crashed with “not responding” message. And I still couldn’t see the long trail activity from the last weekend in the log.
