S9 Baro takes very long to find GPS signal before a move
-
@MaxiPalle That should solve the problem. My S9baro acquires a fix in about 5 sec.
-
Today, synced with SA, checked the GPS-file, left the car, had a GPS-fix in the small parking lot (the usual open terrain with low trees around, no buildings, no hills) in approx 60 seconds … better than usual … for me and my S9 … (last GPS fix before on Friday less than 20km away … same procedure, much bigger parking lot, approx 60 seconds, too)

@Shrek3k
Out of curiosity, have you tried to check visible satellites using the mobile ?
Just to check the “sky” quality. Maybe there are only few satellites visible -
@sartoric excellent idea, I will (re)install an app capable of doing that. Might need a few days for a proper test, as my next run(s) will be in the centre of Brussels, and there is no way, that I will blame a slow satellite pick-up on the watch under that circumstances … but / and Imight use Glonass for the first time ever …
-
@Shrek3k hi. I’m also belgian. Never had any trouble with gps fix on my spartan trainer. Always a fix straight out the front door in a second. Couple of weeks ran in meerdaalwoud near bruxels in a dens forrest. No problems what so ever.
-
This has been a problem for me too since end of April. It looks like A-GPS data (satellite almanac) update is no longer updating reliably, at least when syncing to Movescount. A soft reset fixes that temporarily, but after a week or two the problem repeats. Currently AGPS date on my watch is 2019-06-06.
-
@silentvoyager this sounds really very similar to my issue … I am somehow “feeling” (how to really prove this feeling? No clue) that the A-GPS in the (= my) Suunto 9 currently might not be used in the way it should be used - and has been used before.
And as I am using SA (weekdays and weekends) and MC (weekend)I can’t narrow down the possibilities if and/or which part possibly corrupts or limits the A-GPS … if this is the case at all … -

I have an SSU as per right know my AGPS is dated on 2019-06-17 and on Friday it was 2019-06-14, so you AGPS is out of date. Something is wrong and is not updating your AGPS.

That’s what I am saying. But nothing has changed on my side. I didn’t change anything about how I sync my watch. It used to work reliably since August 2018 when I bought my Suunto 9 until it stopped around April 2019.

In my opinion, it is some software glitch. I would do a sync with the SA, and see if the AGPS is updated, could be some problem from Suunto side. If the AGPS is not updated it could be due the SA app or some corruption in the Watch firmware. I would start with the SA app (clearing cache, or uninstall/install) if this doesn’t work then I would reinstall the watch firmware.
-
I have had my cache in SA corrupted and had to reinstall the app. My AGPS updates are more reliable with SA than the MC app as well. Since I use both that might be an issue.
-
I have this problem too for a few weeks.
Looked at the GPS date, it was old, did soft reset, GPS date ok now,
still having problems. Finding GPS takes minutes.
Nothing chaged on the watch. Using suuntolink with 9,
no intentions using SA -
Uaau, I thought I was the only one. I did soft reset, hard reset. AGPS date is ok. I have this problem for 2 weeks. Disconnect from moveslink, connected to SA and problem is still there. 3-5 minutes is needed or even more to find satellites. Recently I lost reception on the road for 3 minutes, breadcrumbs just disspapeared. I never had this problem with Spartan. And yes, I have this problem for about 2-3 weeks
-
@zvonejan Sounds similar to my issue, once more.
BTW - using the GPS-GLONASS combination even in a mostly rather heavily built up area (Brussels, downtown) has been really disappointing - really not so good track.
-
Hey new FW is out. Lets test that! (in terms of time etc)
-
Looking forward to the update … this friday
… until then reading the comments rather enviously. -
@Shrek3k
FW zip files for manual upgrade are available in the 2.8.24 -

FW zip files for manual upgrade are available in the 2.8.24Thanks … but I have no access to PC/notebook during the week (of course in the office, but …), as I do not need it / have no time to use it … the smartphone with DEX is more than good enough for me… usually … of course not this week

Hi all,
still having problems with the GPS after update to the latest firmware.
baro 9 en MA.
This was never an issue, but the last months I’m struggling… -
@stokje Check the AGPS file, if it is current then I am not clear why this is happening and it could be a hardware issue. Mine has found GPS very quickly, within seconds unless the AGPS file is missing, which can happen.
