Spartan Trainer Wrist HR: weird GPS data
-
Recently (since this week) I started to experience a weird issue with my Spartan Trainer Wrist HR: parts of a training session have weird GPS data.
Here’s an example: https://app.suunto.com/move/user20571682/5cf4d2780f3e4927736a77bc/
Note the two straight segments; they are where the GPS position stopped changing. These segments are pretty big, it seems strange to lose GPS signal for so long. Besides, I would have noticed during the run if the distance stopped increasing or the tempo dropped to zero for such a prolonged period. Also the tempo plot looks reasonable (modulo a couple of spikes) throughout the activity.
Not every activity has this problem, but 3 out of 5 sessions over past week do.
Has anybody seen this? Any advice on how to fix / work around?

Do you have this issue in the same area ?

Looking at the activity data, there are several points to note:
- GPS data records (i.e. the ones including altitude, latitude, longitude, and time by the GPS unit) come at irregular intervals. As the histogram shows, in some time ranges they come every second, in others they are less frequent (2 - 3 per 10 sec), and there are two ranges where the records did appear every second but contained the same data (including the timestamp) – these two correspond to those straight lines in the track.
- GPS quality records (including EHPE, EVPE, #satellites and SNR) come at a lower rate (every 5 seconds) and exhibit similar behavior; the estimated error doesn’t look outstanding, though.
- the records with “calculated” data (speed, cadence, distance, etc) keep coming at regular 1 second intervals throughout the whole activity. The speed and distance values appear to make sense everywhere (except for a couple of spikes in speed, which coincide with the end of the periods of no GPS)
So overall it looks as if the GPS unit gets stuck for certain amount of time, but the watch keeps updating the speed and distance somehow.
Is this a known problem, or is my watch faulty and I’d better rush to the customer service before the warranty period runs out?

No: https://app.suunto.com/move/user20571682/5cf9683eb99d965530c6fa8f/
The problematic part of the track was in reality along the quays which are quite open so nothing would shade the satellite signal IMHO. -
@Роман-Каган as this guy said from what I see as well.
Distance grows because of accelerometer aka fusedspeed.

Hi, I had similiar problems in May with my Suunto 9. First in a short race 8,6 km where the pace and km were off by far. The only thing that I had changed was to go from custom trail mode to basic run mode. Later I was running an ultra and changed the battery level from good to endurance (or something like that). Did it after 80 km and soon after the clock stopped counting the km and the pace was the same. Then maybe after 15 min the distance jumped by 2,53 km or something like that and the pace would be 8:00, 12:00 or 14:00. Read somewhere that some guy had experienced the same problem after he changed the battery mode. I have now rebooted the watch, gone back to basic settings (erased my custom settings) and updated it to the newest version. Hope it helps… On the pics attached one can see that the km and the pace is far from being right. Where I was running there was a good GPS signal (no trees et.c.). Same thing happened in a ultra race in Austria in June, in battery saving modus it stopped counting the km. GPS 3.png

@Amason73
I have the same problem on my suunto 9. Have you found a solution?
